• 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job role is to set up the bar ready for opening ,getting the ice and fresh fruit, turn on the glass washers, gaming machines and tv's, then open the bar and serve customers with a variety of drinks both soft and alcoholic drinks. I also change barrels, restock the bottle fridges, empty bottle bins and do a variety of cleaning jobs on glass washers, ice machine, beer lines, outside areas.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I haven't really learnt anything new but have refreshed my existing skills that I have already acquired during the 40 plus years I've worked in the industry and have combined my own experiences to the standards that Greene King expect from all its employees, we try to pour happiness into our customers lives.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • At first I found the course exciting and a opportunity to learn and refresh my current skills, however after our shutdown due to covid, I found it hard to motivate myself having to restart my course from module 1 again having already done 8 or 9 of the modules before, but with the support of 2 of my tutors I was able to complete the course.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Well-structured and enjoyable.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received as much help as I required from my manager. I was always able to ask for help. Also, I had a number of superb tutors who I was always able to contact by either phone, text or online and if you needed extra support Greene King have their own support system.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I received the amount of support I required my tutors were excellent and went above and beyond what was expected and can't praise them high enough ,I knew I was able to reach out for help and support either by phone, online, text or face to face which was great.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I don't think my qualification helps me that much it was more just about refreshing my experience and skills I already have and built up over the 35+ years I've worked in the industry obviously some things have changed such as credit card payments and the use of technology from when I first started in the industry.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, but none that I take part in.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I find Greene King are responsible employers who value their employees. It has a number of support and advice systems, it constantly gives out both new and refreshed training schemes to help support its employees. It tries hard to give a balanced work and private life, gives good pay, holidays and help.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
  • Listen to your work colleagues, assistant manager and manager, take time to look through The Kingdom app which gives great advice, contact details and support. Greene King is a proactive and supportive employer and these things matter to the individual, so personally I would highly recommend finding employment with Greene King.
