  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have learnt my leadership style leans heavily to laissez-faire but I am able to do all 3 styles as needed. I am very adaptable to work with others and my work styles often suit the person or team I am working with, I have different approaches based on who I am with.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It is very interesting as I have not done any studies for over 20 years. I am having to find the right balance between work, home and studies. It is reminding me how capable I am at compartmentalising everything. I am enjoying meeting other people in the industry and watching each other grow

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very well organised. Lots of information to take in but a good amount of time spent on each area before moving on to a new subject. A good amount of breaks to recharge the mind and body. I am the 4th person from my pub to do this programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive all the support and encouragement I could ask for from my general manager and assistant manager. They both have done the programme and have continued on to the next levels so they know what I am working on and what I need to work on. They have been very helpful.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • All the support I need. I can email my trainer any time I need help and guidance, and they are quick to respond with answers, suggestions, and help to my questions. They are very happy, like a cheerleader which must be exhausting for them as they have so many students to oversee.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps me to think of things I hadn't thought of. I naturally adapt to the people around me and now I can understand why that has helped me get as far as I have. It also let's me know things I need to work on that I'm not naturally as strong at.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of different groups that you can join in the Greene King family. At our pub we have recently started a football team and are planning a girls day. We regularly have the opportunity to meet different Brewery suppliers and learn about their products directly on Tour of the Brewery.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a huge company but it takes time to make sure the staff are looked after. The staff discount is pretty good and the fact that you can have a discount for friends and family is very nice. They make sure that there are online groups and everyone would be welcome in and are trying to make sure that everyone has representation.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
  • Apply! If you have no experience or tons of experience apply. They are happy to train you up so you can make a career out of hospitality. They also understand that hospitality is a good job for people studying and happily work around uni schedules. If you don't try you will never succeed.
