  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Serving customers with the highest level, adhering to many procedures such as edi (equality, diversity and inclusion). • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes a lot, how to change a barrel of beer or how to maintain standards and change an ale to its highest level. People skills and being confident to either talk to customers or diffuse difficult situations. Developing computer skills for when needed at the end of night when counting cash and doing a banking etc.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed it very much. I learnt many things that were and weren’t within jd Wetherspoon. I learnt all about the hospitality sector and different types of service there is. The only reason I put a 9 and not a 10 was because it was difficult to get back into it after the covid situation.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Everything was organised, I had 2 trainers, one before Covid and one after lockdown. Both were very good and knew where my strengths were, my second trainer knew where my progress before lockdown was and left off to the highest standard. All I needed to know about the programme was all online and easy to access.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received quite a lot of support from my employer. My pub manager always wanted to be kept in the loop when I had meetings with the trainers and always offered help when and if needed. He also made sure I got paid for each meeting I had as it was to help me within the company.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Once again I received a lot of support from my trainers as well as my employer. Always asked if I needed any help and was always there to answer my calls and texts which was nice. When getting nearer to the end of assessment, my trainer wanted more meetings to make sure I was fully ready and to help with anything I needed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • A little bit. There was some things in the qualification that I feel I will not need to use but the majority of the qualification will help me not within my role but also within any other job I may have in the future, whether that be within hospitality or not.

    7/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There isn’t many extra curricular activities to do within my work but there is many charity events that go on which vary from football tournaments to darts which is for a good cause and all in good fun. The trouble within the company is that they do not have any social media accounts.

  • 9a. Would you recommend JD Wetherspoon to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • This was a tough one. There were many negatives about the company but the positives outweigh the negatives, the pay is better than other companies within the sector, many discounts on both food and drinks. Bonuses for basically doing your job properly, the main one is probably the room for progression.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JD Wetherspoon?
  • As long as you’re confident and strong minded and can handle a busy and stressful periods within the day then apply. There is a variety of customers that will come in each day which will be both easy and hard to handle but keep calm and keep smiling and the day will fly by.
