  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my day to day role my responsibilities include ensuring the safety of all the guests and the overall hotel at all times by doing health and safety checks weekly and by always keeping a pager on me so I can be alerted if an alarm or guest is needed my assistance. I will also organise the housekeeping team on a morning and allocate equal amount of rooms for them to clean and also tell them of any jobs of the day that need to be done too. I will great guests upon arrival and ensure from as soon as they step out of their car that they are welcomed and have a fun stay with us. Checking guests in and out as they come, helping with guests enquiries of where things may be in town etc and just generally helping guests with bags if needed and bringing extras up to their room if requested.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My entire skill set has developed since working here as its a completely new industry I've come to work in but I love the personal confidence growth it has given me, my customer service skills aren't just coming from qualifications as I can put them into play so much more in this role than other jobs I've had. My ICT skills have definitely improved too from the majority of my tasks are on the computer and all my training is online too.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am thoroughly enjoying this programme, I have always wanted to undertake a course like this at college but it didn't have much demand so they didn't run the course so I was so happy to start in a job and get this offered to me! I feel so supported and inspired to keep the motivation, even on lockdown it has kept me thinking positively and kept me occupied too.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very well organised, even now on lockdown all our meetings are scheduled for skype/phone calls which is nice to have someone still available to talk to even if its not face to face. I feel like the training plans are easy to understand as well so it's easy to plan what tasks are next.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager at the time who enrolled me onto this apprenticeship was super supportive and knew how important this programme was to me so she pushed it to happen sooner and to get me on the level I preferred. She had also done this level apprenticeship so she was offering advice and support. The new manager who has taken over is still very supportive but hasnt done this apprenticeship himself so I don't feel as I can get as much support from this manager but that's no disrespect, he's still lovely and pushing me in the right direction.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I've only had one meeting with my trainer but Ive felt very supported from the very start, he was very thorough at going through where to find everything on MyLife and everything I need to know to get me started. I know I can email him anytime and get support or help if I feel stuck.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • This apprenticeship will lead to me getting the role that I would love to have a career in, this is the apprenticeship that my manager did and I really admire her, so I know that this apprenticeship will give me everything I need to know to be successful in my current role and hopefully help me get into bigger and better roles.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We always have a Great Osmond Street Hospital charity table in reception where guests and restaurant customers can leave a donation or buy some of our amazing gifts, we also do raffles every now and then, colouring competitions for the kids, seasonal activities to do as well all to raise money for Gosh.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Whitbread to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel they're a great company to work for and I really feel proud to say I work for them. There's constant support and help lines if you ever need them, even on shifts alone I never feel alone if I need help. We're all getting reassurance through this covid 19 pandemic and it sounds like we're probably getting the best looked after still. Last year we achieved an all green WINcard so we are planning a green party and are waiting for a weeks free pay, there's loads of incentives to work for Premier Inn too, but it genuinely is the best place I've ever worked and has the best people inside the business too!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Whitbread?
  • Be yourself, even if you haven't got any experience in the role you're applying for still give it a go and give it your all if you get an interview! Even if you aren't confident show you are and put your relevant attributes out there as soon as your first meeting with the manager, personality over qualifications with this job I feel! Just apply, you won't regret it!!
