  • I ensure the efficient running of the hotel, with the management of the hotels reservation system. On a day to day basis I assist the Hotel Manager to manage a team of 16 team members with training and coaching, ensuring all compliant training is completed by all. I complete Back to Work interviews following absents, assist welfare meetings and recruitment. I enter the teams payroll, rotas, forecast the hotels occupancy, complete financial key controls and ensure all Health and Safety checks are completed. Order consumables.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to interact with a variety of TMs, how to shortlist and interview for vacancies, order consumables, how I contribute to the KPIs, how to delegate tasks to TMs. I have recently passed Level 2 Foundation Skills in Maths and English, with which I made my first Power Point presentation and I am close to completing my Hospitality Supervisor Appenticeship Level 3.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Working full time I have struggled to complete tasks due to lack of time but I have enjoyed the course. I feel very pleased after so many years being able to complete the required Maths and English for the Foundation Skills. I look forward to completing the research and finding for my project.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I received well structured support from my trainer and she was understanding with the fact that I have very little excess time to complete the tasks. Due to this I was usually only given a couple of tasks each time I met up with my trainer so that I could concentrate on revision for the Functional Skills exams as well.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I did not have to ask for support from my manager until I started working on my project, at this point he assisted in the accessibility of data. He also encourage me in my idea for the project as he was impressed with the possibilities for the company. I was also asked regularly how I was getting on with the apprenticeship so I know that I could have asked for help if needed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I lacked confidence to complete the Functional Skills in Maths and English after so many years but my trainer was very supportive and had confidence in my ability. She booked me onto remote courses to help with revision and she was also impressed with with my project idea, calling it original and something different for the assessor.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As I have been working in reception for 13 years already with having moved up to my present role 15 months ago, I was already confident in much of my role. Completing the Hotel Legislation module was very interesting and I learnt some very important laws. I also enjoy learning about the advantages and disadvantages of different management styles, which I believe will help within my role.

  • The company have an annual party which I have attended twice. This party is to celebrate the successes of the company, contributions of individual TMs and generally to thank all of members of the Whitbread family for assisting in their success. The company pay for Christmas Dinner for all TMs, where this will gives us the opportunity to socialise away from work.
