I work at kfc, I am a team member. This means I take orders pack orders, clean the lobby area, toilets and the tills/packing area. I make drinks, ice creams and plate up/pack the food. I also restock anything that is needed at the front section, including plates, cups, bags and ice.
I have definitely improved my confidence. I have done this by communicating with customers and other members of staff everyday. I have learnt about stock rotation and the laws and legislation in the hospitality industry. This helps me to understand the rules which should be followed in my day to day tasks.
Working at kfc is very enjoyable. You meet new people each and everyday. As well as seeing regular customers. Regular customers usually make jokes or talk to you in a more friendly manor, which makes the day much more enjoyable. The majority of staff are also supportive and friendly to others.
in my experience, my training provider has been very organised with my apprenticeship. I have a trainer that comes in or calls me every few weeks, he tells me what homework I have to do, I then write up about these topics and give him feedback about what I have learnt. I also upload these onto my training providers site, to show evidence that I have been doing my homework.
My employer offers me support. Providing I give enough notice, he allows me to have the days off that I ask for. He helps me learn new skills and to understand how to do tasks at work that I do not understand. The whole team were involved in training me, which helped a lot.
My training provider gives me all the topics I need to cover, he also asks me questions about them subjects after I have studied them, as well as getting me to explain them to him. This ensures that both of us are confident with my learning. This way we both know I am on track.
Learning about laws and legislations helps me to understand my role better. My training provider has also taught me how to properly lift items, which is helpful when lifting boxes or big packages of drinks. I have also learnt more about my rights, such as the hours I should be working, and what I should have access to (eg drinking water, toilets etc)
In my experience, I have not found any extra curricular activities to take part in that are involved with my work place. I have not been informed about any social activities, sport events, or professional networking events. I am not sure if this is because they do not exist, or I simply have not researched it.
Yes
I believe it is a good job for money, long hours and it can be straight forward after you have worked there for a few months. However, I may not recommend it For everyone as it can be very tiring and customers can be extremely rude. Therefore it may not be a good job for someone with low self confidence or self esteem
Being confident and cheerful is very important. You must want to learn and be willing to fail. You may mess up a few orders towards the start, and you probably still will towards the end. The first few weeks seem extremely tough but it definitely becomes easier. I believe having a good relationship with your managers and team members also helps drastically.
