  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My Job title is Apprentice Aircraft engineer. This means completing my A license modules and completing my NVQ. I have office placements around the company to learn how the buisness and engineering works. I also work in the hangar gaining experience with aircraft and work on line maintenance with other qualified engineers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. I am gaining my EASA A license modules and completing my NVQ. I have just finished 8 months training with Resource Group to gain my modules at Cotswold airport. I have learnt a huge amount.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed nearly every aspect of my apprenticeship so far. I think it is an extremely exciting oppertunity. But you have to work very hard as there is a lot to learn. I believe this is the best aircraft engineering apprenticeship there is.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Thomson Airlines?
  • I feel very valued by Thomson Airways. All staff seem very friendly and supportive at all times. There is always something to do and new things to learn. And they always try and get the apprentices involved in exciting new things.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • This programme i believe is extremely well structured and planned. I have a plan scheduled for myself for the next few years so i know exactly what i should be doing every day.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I have recieved a lot of support from my managers and peers within the company and always feel included and valued. If i ever need help, it will be there for me.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I recieve support if and when i need it. so i can always have any problems or issues resolved very quickly. this makes it a lovely company to work for.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary is very good for an apprentice; above average. I have no problems with managing to live and travel. Thomson pay for my accomodation when i have to be placed somewhere else in the country so this helps, and they cover expenses when i have to travel.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many oppertunities outside work. And The company always makes sure the apprentices are included. For example i have just come back off a week of team building in the peak district.

  • 9. Would you recommend Thomson Airlines to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They are a very good company to work for and are very supportive. There will never be a boring moment, there is always something new to learn.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Thomson Airlines?
  • Make sure you have valuable aircraft experience and a big interest in engineering and aeroplanes. Make sure this is included on your CV.Prepare for your interview and apptitude tests.
