  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As team leader/promoted to team manager I was responsible for the people management of a department ranging from 25-40 individuals. This included conducting 1-1's, PDR's, following HR processes, performance management including setting and monitoring KPI's and communicating with senior stakeholders of the department reporting on performance with data.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have developed my ability to be an inclusive leader by learning about different learning styles. I have also ensured my management style aligns with my ethos and goals by educating myself about different leadership styles for example coaching style. I have recognised the importance of trust in a manager through my new knowledge of emotional intelligence as well as improved my ability to affect changes through understanding theories such as Kotter's 8 step change model.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • when I was swapped to having my personal tutor I felt very well supported and excited to continue my course as I was given the understanding of the wider course content and goals. I found the assignments (particularly assignment 2) to be very applicable to my practice and felt my professional discussions were a good way to consolidate my understanding.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My tutor is very knowledgeable on the course as a whole and the requirements and therefore she was very good at providing a supportive structured plan. As a consequence, I felt the course was well organised.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Initially I was allotted time flexibly on an adhoc basis however through discussion we agreed I was then allowed 1 day per week for personal study which was amazing and ensured I got the most from my learning.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • my tutor was brilliant at answering any questions and booking in regular 1-1's to ensure I was staying on track with my learning. In each 1-1 we would create a plan for the following weeks. she was non-judgemental and patient which left me feeling empowered to ask questions.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It gifted me with more knowledge on individual and team management which is integral in my role. I was able to navigate emotionally challenging situations with a better EQ and resilience. I was also better able to improve performance management processes by understanding reward and recognition and change management.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, we have a social committee who organise social events for the wider business. This allows for networking as well which has improved inter-departmental communication.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Due to the size of Acacium Group I believe there is something for everyone; the passion from the senior management is encouraging and the CEO regularly communicates to the business the companies values and the action taken/to be taken to achieve these. For example, one of our values is Putting People First; Acacium Group demonstrates this through allotted wellbeing time, prayer rooms and exceptional performance awards.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Acacium Group?
  • Understand the companies ethos and values of putting people first, driven by excellence and better together. Gain knowledge on the current healthcare climate and the avenues with which Acacium Group support this. Be clear on which division you are interested in developing in; for example Life Sciences, Last Minute Nursing or Health and Community.
