  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Working with learners from across the hospitality sector, providing them with training and coaching, information advice and guidance in order to help them to develop their careers. This can include face-to-face and remote coaching sessions, marking work, booking classroom sessions and planning for assessments. Also, liaising with line managers to complete any required assessments.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed a considerable number of skills around coaching methods and practices, assessment grading and requirements and legislation. I have also developed my skills around communication, technology, building and developing rapport, prioritising and planning my time and developing my resilience. Finally I have learned about the education inspection framework and why this is so important.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I find my apprenticeship programme to be engaging, informative, challenging and insightful in equal measures. It has definitely helped me to develop my knowledge, skills, behaviours and confidence in my job role and is allowing me the opportunity to reflect on my learning and day-to-day experiences in order to become better each day.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As above really, the course structure and organisation is really beneficial and provides a mixture of the skills, knowledge and behaviours I need to stretch and challenge myself whilst also providing considerable reflection time to put my learning into practice. The support from my coaches and line manager has been great throughout.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive monthly 1-to-1s where my apprenticeship progress is discussed, with time used to discuss apprenticeship content, learning activities and development. I have reviews and observations with my coach who provides consistent feedback and helps me to map this against the assessment criteria in order to plan for my end point assessment.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive monthly 1-to-1s where my apprenticeship progress is discussed, with time used to discuss apprenticeship content, learning activities and development. I have reviews and observations with my coach who provides consistent feedback and helps me to map this against the assessment criteria in order to plan for my end point assessment. As highlighted above, this helps me to map my progression and highlight areas which I can develop and work towards.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification is directly linked into my job role and provides me with the tools, training and confidence to perform to a high level repeatedly. By allowing me time to reflect and analyse my own experiences, this is helping me to develop and embed the methods and tools I have been learning about with my own learners.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not directly as our team is spread across the country, but we frequently have face-to-face meetings, development and coaching sessions and team-building activities. Additonally we have developed a peer group within our team who have recently completed a charity event in our own time in order to support the chosen partner for our wider business.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Lifetime to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I actually already have done! 5 months after working here my wife joined the company and works in the same team. The work-life balance and support provided around coaching, training, development and recognition is among the best I have ever worked for and this has significantly helped me to achieve my targets - I would highly recommend based on my experience and coaching to date.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lifetime?
  • Have confidence in your own personality - the job can be taught, but personality, rapport and natural ability to put people at ease cannot. Research what you expect from the job role and prepare for this to be different every day - the freedom and flexibility of the job role supports this but can be overwhelming so be willing to speak out when you need help and support.
