  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Essentially, I work as a case handler handling a caseload of 60+ cases in the probate department. I am responsible for handling the estate administrative of a case from start to finish as well as keeping in regular contact with all of my clients in all files.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As I am constantly drafting inheritance tax forms when applying for the Grant of Probate, I feel like my legal drafting skills have improved massively. I also think my communication skills have improved because I am always speaking to clients and third parties.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme. I feel like I have improved massively as a person and feel more confident speaking to others. I enjoy learning about the different aspects of the estate administration as well as helping others in need.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structured. I started off in the legal assistant team, assisting existing case handlers with their administrative work. When I became more confident, I began building my own caseload. With my college work, I learned about the area of law I work in.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer, I was given a day a week so that I could complete my college work. If I was ever struggling, I knew I could approach my manager and they would be there to help me if I needed it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider was very understanding and helpful. If I ever needed advice or help in a certain area, they were always there to help me. They also were very quick to respond and I was even given a direct phone number for my coach.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification helped my perform better in my role because it taught me a lot more about the different inheritance tax forms that I use on a daily basis and when I should be using which. I found this to be very helpful in speeding up case durations.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Unfortunately, there are no any extra curricular activities at my work place. We sometimes get a Christmas event.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Co-op to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I think it is a really good start in the legal world. It has built my confidence and independence, whilst gaining legal knowledge that will help me in my future career as a solicitor. People at the Co Op are also really supportive and friendly.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Co-op?
  • Be truthful and try and gain legal work experience beforehand, that way, when you come to coming in the firm, it would not be such a shock to you as you will be more used to working alongside legal professionals. I would also suggest being very confident.
