  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a funeral arranger I meet with the family to co ordinate and facilitate the funeral arrangements of their loved one. I am front of house and the face of the coop. I liaise with professionals such as GPS, Drs, coroners, church leaders and officiant’s. I also deal with the admin such as ensuring forms are completed correctly and finances are inputted onto the system.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to interact with grieving families and how to deal with challenging situations. I have also learnt how the embalming process takes place and the impact it has on the deceased. I have learnt how to be more empathetic and understanding of peoples situations and that all families are ultimately different and follow different cultures and religions

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme as I feel it co insides with my role. I am able to complete the set tasks whilst learning them in a practical manner. I feel the tasks set are not too overwhelming and don’t feel like a mammoth chore to complete. I enjoy seeking what skills I have learnt

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is very structured and very easy to follow. Each section that needs to be completed flows well and is presented in a structured manner. My couch is able to assist me should I require assistance in understanding what is happening next. I have no issues with following the program

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is very supportive. If I require any guidance or support I can simply ask a colleague or my coach. My employer has provide KD the training I have asked for and also provided with additional training such as embalming training and funeral day attendance both burial and cremation

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Dave cooper my coach is amazing. If I am struggling juggling my work load he will support me and guide me. If I have anything that I don’t understand he will explain it to me in a way that helps to simplify things. He will talk it through which is how I learn

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It has helped me understand the grieving process and how best to support families. This has in turn improved my relationship with my families as it helps me to connect with them. It has also helped me to understand the importance of compliance and governances and why it’s important we follow guidelines

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am part of the community events team which is working with the community to create days and events that bring everyone together. We are currently working on a charity golf day which will raise money for charities and bring the community together. This is also good for team building

  • 9a. Would you recommend Co-op to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Coop is an amazing place to work. I feel as a whole it cares about not just its customers but coop colleagues. They are driving for a fairer place to live and work and I feel it shines through. We receive Thank you emails, cards and gifts throughout the year which makes staff feel appreciated


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Co-op?
  • Ultimately Be yourself and show how much you care and want to be part of a coop community. You must ensure your committed, empathetic, kind, patient, understanding and share good British ethics. Show how you want to make a difference and share how you plan on doing that within your role
