  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I support the governance & scheme secretarial side of multiple pension schemes. The jobs include drafting statutory documents as well as requested ones and also presenting these to Trustees and meetings throughout the year. I also interact with a lot of external providers like investment and legal advisors.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am currently studying for the ADRP and have currently passed this up to DIP level so the skills i've learnt through the have been very relevant to my job role. There is also a lot of internal training sessions but on my the company which help me develop further in my role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The best part about the programme is the support network around me. That could be my day to day colleagues at Mercer or the support issued by the Growth Company. The only negative is that i think the company could be slightly more accomodating around exam seasions as work is usually very busy in Q1 - but this could be attributed to the exam provider for choosing a poor time.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I have monthy calls with the Growth company which does set the foundations for a very strong structure as we can discuss what ive been doing at work as well as set assignments for the following call - i always feel like i can reach out to them when i have any queries about the programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We are given a very good amount of study days however i sometimes feel there is a pressure around taking them when work is busy which tends to be Q1 and exam period is just after in April so it can sometimes be difficult to manage time in that aspect.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have monthly calls with the provider which i feel are extremely useful as we discuss the type of work ive done over the month and also set / review previous assignments set by them. I always know i can contact them if i need to and i do enjoy the monthly calls.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps that the theory included in all the study manuels is very relevant for my job role and i have learned a lot from it. Mainly through the focus on regulaory change as this is something i wouldnt really look into otherwise and this allows me to see these changes regularly.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The company do hold informal socials now and again which allows everyone to meet up which is always nice and there are also more formal events like away days when extrnal places are booked and everyone spends a day there focussing on team building and sharing ideas on their clients etc.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Marsh McLennan to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • As the work can be very rewarding however i would always flag that it is very difficult to manage time spent between work and study as ive mentioned above that the exam periods usually coinside with busier work times so you feel like youre not able to access all of your study because of this.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Marsh McLennan?
  • Take in a good background knowledge of the industry (doesnt need to be comprehensive - just show youve done your research) and show all the people skills that most require i.e good team worker and communicator. It would also help to show youre comfotable presenting in front of new people as this is a key part of the role.
