  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is quite varied, no two days are the same. I spend much of my time working a different clients analysing transactions and providing tax advice. I work closely with a team of qualified tax advisors who provide me with great opportunities. In addition to my technical role, I also spend time on extra curricular activities, particularly my area of interest is Diversity and Inclusion.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed many of my skills, I have been able to work on my communication, technical knowledge, time keeping skills and in particular my confidence. Through working within a team and presenting to a wide audience, I have been able to build my public speaking skills along with my confidence which has been really beneficial for me.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my program, I enjoy working on different clients and having varied days. My involvement with extra curricular activities also enhance how much I enjoy my programme, they allow me to have greater purpose. Working with an EY team is great, I feel that I belong in the team and that my differences are valued.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There is good structure to the programme, the expectations are clear and the role is also well laid out. In addition, there is a a great support system for all apprentices, each apprentice has a counsellor, a buddy and a coach which they can reach out to with any questions and issues.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a good level of support from my employer, a recent time in particular would be during covid. Throughout the time of working from home, EY provided a plethora of support to employees and support also catered to apprentices specifically. There are teams available to help with work queries and with college queries.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There are specific support lines which are available to students in helping them with the college work. The teams are responsive and available to help with questions related to college timings and with specific technical questions. It is sometimes harder to find the correct support to contact, however once you get used to this it is an efficient service.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification is directly linked to my role, the understanding which I gain throughout my exams and college courses aids me in my technical office work. It allows me to deepen my understanding of common topics, and in particular the accounting treatment which lies behind the technical analysis as such the qualification allows me to perform better.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am involved in many extra curricular activities in addition to my day to day to role, I am a member of a few networks, I also take part in D&I initiatives which allow me to gain a deeper understanding of belonging, and to add value to the team and organisation.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would definitely recommend EY and this programme to a friend as I believe there is much opportunity for growth and I also feel there is a plethora of support which would allow an individual to succeed. I also feel the working environment is great and would provide a sense of belonging.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • I would advice any person applying to EY to be themselves and let their true self shine throughout the interview process. Feel confident in your abilities and remember EY value people for who they are, each person is valued for their differences and everyone holds a sense of belonging within the firm.
