  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have learnt crucial professional skill since starting with EY. The potential for learning that comes from working for a big four firm are endless. The hands on development style have been extremely useful and have allowed me to strengthen existing skills and also develop new skills. Namely technical accounting knowledge, IT skills, professional skepticism and Accountability.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed the programme. It is a good mix of work, training and learning. It has allowed me to jump straight to a work environment where I am responsible for work that matters whilst also getting the support and training to enhance my development. Working alongside a great, supporting team is a bonus.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has an appropriate mix of on the job learning and off the job in the form of a vast gallery of online training lessons that are assigned to you at different stages of the programme that are deemed appropriate for that stage of development, which is extremely useful. Exams are spread across the duration of the apprenticeship around busier work periods so that exams can be prioritised.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Upon starting at EY, you are assigned a buddy who helps integrate you into the team and answer any questions. Also given a counsellor, who you can contact any time with issues and they regularly reach out to check in. Also, meet with your counsellor quarterly where you set goals, discuss your progress and any issues.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • You have regular interactions with your counsellor regarding study time, exams and your progress. You have a huge network of colleagues who you can reach out to for their experiences, for tips and support. The support I have received so far is incredible and has been extremely helpful when working towards my qualifications.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the qualification is extremely useful as the web based learning we complete has a direct application to our day to day responsibilities and allows us to enhance our knowledge of methodology and techniques. The qualification itself helps with communication skills, confidence and adapting to the professional environment.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of clubs and societies - such as yoga sessions, sports teams, we have pool tables and table tennis tables in the break room to socialise and have a break. We have lots of socials to build team relationships and also networking meetings with other offices and peers from across the UK.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • There are several reasons why I would recommend EY to a friend and why I have already done so. Examples include - the qualifications, the experience of working for a supportive big four firm, the extensive training, the wide support network, the inclusive workforce, the emphasis on team building and social activities.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • I would advise others to apply and enjoy the benefits as myself and my colleagues are. It is a great alternative to university and offers great qualifications alongside years of great experience at a reputable firm. I suggest if applying, to be ready to work hard but it is certainly worth it.
