  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an auditor which means I work closely with multiple clients taking on tasks that ensure that what they state in their financial statement is true and fair. As an auditor, we can't give 100% assurance as this is impossible so we try to give them as much assurance as possible working on different classes of accounts such as fixed assets, trade receivables and many more.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to conduct myself in a manner that makes me more approachable and easier to speak to. Doing this job, I face clients almost everyday so I had to learn how to be professional and how to build a good relationship with them. I learnt that building a good relationship makes the job a lot easier.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying thus programme everyday as I learn something new almost everyday. In the job, you have responsibilities which means that someone is relying on you to deal with the task. In addition, it kind of makes you feel at home as all my colleagues make me feel like I am apart of a family.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very organised however there are some parts that can be a lot better. The organisation of the college could be a lot better as we take accounting course for a week as soon as we join and then we have our exam during the summer so there is a big gap which I find unusual but apart from that its really good.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive good support from my employer. There are some times where a member of the team I am in might not be the best of coach but that is something EY is working very hard on. They are making sure that each colleague has a high level of coaching as everyone has something to learn on so it is definitely improving.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The quality of the lessons we have is really good however as mentioned before, the timings of the accounting course compared to when its exam is quite baffling. However, I cant say anything less than good about the quality of the lessons as I am really learning a lot during the courses.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It definitely helps each apprentice excel in their actual role as it plays in majorly to what the job is. Of course there are other aspects of the job that are new learning but the parts where we learn in the courses are very helpful. I work in an accounting firm so the accounting courses as it should do, help a lot.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are always social activities to do within my office as well as other offices such as refresher courses. This is something that connects all the offices together and get to know each other personally. In addition, we have a lot of dinners that teams create just so we can enjoy some time outside of work together.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would 100% recommend EY to a friend as its a very good step into a new journey. Its also a very good journey especially if you want to go into accounting. I would say that its not key that you have to be good at anything to do this as you learn to love the job when you join and as each day goes by.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Apply! Definitely apply! As I mentioned above, you do not need to be amazing at accounting and any other subject before you join as this will be taught to you and you will learn on the job. Don't be scared either. All you will need to have before joining is the drive and eagerness to work hard and give it you everything. I wont say its easy as it never is but it definitely is a direction into a new journey.
