  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Each day I am responsible for managing a number of systems and inboxes, responding to general queries from the colleagues in the business. I am expected to be able to advise on all matters from policies to benefits and job changes, system help and contract queries. I interact daily with a variety of colleagues from the business from peers to senior management to ensure that they get the help that they need with regards to processing promotions and job changes, leaver queries, benefit queries. I am responsible for creating monthly dashboards for the director of the department containing information such as turnover and headcount and providing adhoc support where needed.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have completed a Mental Health First Aider course as well and being involved in the Ethics programme as an ambassador. I have attended conferences on our HR system Workday and learnt new skills on maintaining systems & creating reports. I have improved my knowledge of HR practices and techniques in dealing with the day to day.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The first part of the programme was enjoyable and challenging, going to classes and completing assignments was rewarding. My taught lessons started in Nov 17, I was done with the classes in June 18 and finished the written assignments in Nov 18. I am still waiting to finish the 'apprenticeship' part of the course and it feels a bit dragged out at this stage as I have been waiting for quite a while to finish. It half met my expectations as I was expecting that it would be a bit clearer on how and when I would finish the course.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As mentioned above. The first part of the course was very well structured and the support I had from my tutor was great. I then got more involved with the Growth Company in preparing for the end point assessment but it took nearly 9 months after my last taught class for me to receive the document for which I needed to submit the brief for my final assignment project. 18 months later I still haven't come close to starting the project.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support I had from my employer was good at the beginning as I was allowed to take of the time needed when I needed to finish the assignment. My manager however has changed 3 times since I started the programme which has been quite frustrating. The support in the work I was doing has always been consistent and I have felt like I can talk to my manager and other people about the assignments.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have had regular meetings with the training provider which is great and my advisor is great to work with, however communication between the meetings is almost non existent and the training provider also don't really understand the end point assessment as it appears to be a new format, so I do very much feel like a guinea pig for this apprenticeship. I have been left to try and figure out what I need to submit for the brief for the end point assessment, not really knowing what I'm doing.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification has helped me to understand more of the context around HR practices and has given me more confidence in being able to help colleagues with these matters. I had helped to improve my writing skills and ability to meet deadlines. I feel I know a lot more about employment law, resourcing and engagement.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of things to get involved in at work. Activities such as Yoga, Choir, Running Clubs, Free drink Fridays, Ethic Ambassador, Wellbeing programmes. There are regular company updates and parties to celebrate achievements throughout the year. The company is constantly looking for ways to improve the environment and tries to involve people where possible.

  • I would say that you should manage your expectations. This isn't a place where you can really maximize your career but it definitely offers a good starting point and there are plenty of opportunities outside of the contact center.
