1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work on a check out serving customers every day shopping that includes lottery and cigarettes, papers. I also deal with home delivery. Ihave worked on the shop floor rotating stock date coding and delivery. Also reductions making such all the items are fresh and the store looks nice and clean.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I'm on an apprenticeship with the co op so every day i am learning new things. I have amazing managers who teach me everything and anything I'm unsure of I know I can ask for help. I am more confident on the check out. I have learned how to deal with customers and multi tasking in the kiosk is a must. Putting the cigarette into the gantry is attention to detail. Date coding is something I've learnt, stacked the shelves in the right way facing up so everything is neat and tidy.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

As I have to be honest, i do find all the revision quite tiring as I'm working 30 hours and trying to do things at home like every day stuff. I prefer to do my course work at work as it's quiet. I am enjoying learning new things but there is a lot to remember.

4. How well organised/structured is your programme?

10/10

We did have teething problems at first having to get a new tutor due to illness. But now our new tutor is about to retire so we will be starting all over again. The lay out of the programme is straight forward would prefer abit more audio in the course work.

5. How much support do you receive from your employer?

10/10

We have great help from all our managers as they want us to succeed. They show us and also give us an explanation to why it has to be that way. If we need help there is someone always there. I also have a work buddy so we work together and help each other.

6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Our tutor is ok but to be honest I don't thing she has enough time to go through everything with us. We never really know from one visit to the next which module we are supposed to be doing. She is due to retire soon so to be honest I think she is focusing on that.

7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

When I left school I only had 1 cse English which was rubbish. So I'm really looking forward to finishing this course because I'm hoping to get my grades and I think it will help me go up the ladder in the co op. I really enjoy my job meeting people getting to know what my customers needs are. My confidence has grown.

8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Our aim at the co op is to help our community we are always doing events liking baking cakes to sell to raise money so the community can buy things they need like sports outfit for a local schools money for the air ambulance and local charity to help animals. I did a event for my portfolio to collect Easter eggs for the local food bank we collect 4 boxes just from our store.

9a. Would you recommend Co-op to a friend?

Yes

9b. Why?

Even before I worked at the co op I used to shop there. As it was my local shop. All the staff are friendly helpful and it's not that expensive. Since the refit it feels bigger great range of different food to accommodate every body. Large car park, very clean and self scan tills so you don't have to queue up.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Co-op?

I would always tell people to be yourself and always go that extra mile to help people. Working for the co op is a great place to work for. Its a family run business and firmly believes in giving back to the community It's pays well over the minimum wage. Working with your colleagues it becomes like a family unit.
