my role is to carry put servicing on different parts and shadowing engineers assisting them when I can, learning off them at every point. tasks could be fault finding or routine maintenance. I occasionally take part in projects when set them.
I have learned a wide range of skills such as what to look for when diagnosing a fault and how to use tools correctly and efficiently this also involves power tools and machines such as lathes.
I enjoy the tasks being set and the people I work with. the college course was intense but overall an enjoyable few months. another thing I enjoy about the program is the wide range of tasks to be a part of in the working environment.
as an apprentice I feel valued by Arla as they make sure I have everything I need and am checked up on to make sure everything is going alright and any recommendations I have for my training along with having the opportunity to get myself involved with tasks any engineer is doing. whilst at college our food and petrol was taken care of us so we wasn't out of pocket.
the college course is well organized to an extent but there are a lot of uncertainty on what we will be doing and only finding out as we go along what is happening which does make it quite difficult sometimes, this is due to the course going through the new trial blazer which is still to be recognized so this will only improve over time. whilst at college there was next to no support outside of classes due to the ratio of students to teachers.
the training provider MGTS provides very little support outside of lessons so there was near enough no 1 on 1 if you were struggling with a subject, this wasn't the teachers fault as there wasn't enough tutors.
I receive a fair amount of support from my employer when needed and if I have any issues I can easily bring it up with my manager, team leader or mentor and I will be assisted with it. the attitude towards supporting me is good as they evidently want to see me do well.
my salary meets my costs quite well as I am still living at home so I don't have rent to pay for however if I did have to pay for rent i would struggle to pay for it quite a bit as, this has been considered in the salary though and was increased with an additional grand for a deposit on a flat.
there are a few opportunity's outside of work such as events on farms to be involved in but other than that there are not many other events to be involved in.
Yes
The work is enjoyable and it is a generous company to work for, everyone here is nice and there is always something for me to do and they look after their staff.
be as detailed as possible in the application process as you need to stand out from the rest from the beginning, in the assessment day it was a group activity followed by an interview, in the group activity you need to make yourself stand out by demonstrating the ability to work in a team and take control when required
