  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as a eden dairy technologist involves LOTS of fast paced learning, which definitely keeps me on my toes! This also includes learning various new skills at college which i am able to use to help me study and learn whilst at work. I work solely within process at site, learning various skills including milk process and creamery.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • LOADS! Organisation is a key factor, and i know from starting with arla in 2017 my organisation and time planning has improved dramatically. I am easily able to organise myself at work, plan future college assignments and my home life! Confidence is another, i enjoy working as a team with my colleagues and they really give me the push i need to succeed.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy working at arla foods, i have learnt so many new qualities and met so many new friends through the program. I enjoy working shifts and regularly changing departments meaning there is always something new to learn. Its great meeting new people at college too, they become like a second family in a way!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Well organised at the work place, training etc provided and everyone is helpful if theres anything else/extra you find yourself needing. College is a bit more difficult, would say there is more structure at work than at college. Wouldn't say it's a bad thing, just requires more organisation and forward thinking (definitely helps to improve skills an ability to work alone)

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Arla are great, i have visited several other sites during my time here so far to see how operations work at different sites. They are supportive if i need anything/training from a work prospective. They help forward plan towards my future and what it can look like which is a great confidence boost.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There is pro's and con's for me at the training i have/are receiving from reaseheath college. Pro's being they have pilot plants (mini versions) of the larger scale plants at work. This is great, and so much fun to make various cheeses, milks etc amongst various other products. Also allows you to have more of a understanding when at work. Con's for me are organisation and assignments- not well planned.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification gives me a much better understanding of what's actually happening when looking at a process. The pilot plants allow you to learn on a smaller scale before jumping straight into the real thing which is a huge bonus and confidence giver. Also allows me to look at things such as lean, RCA, lean etc due to me having a better understanding of how things work/should work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As a team we quite often meet up after work/days off for various events or just a general drink! There is also a gym on site which has very good facilities. Events at christmas are always held too such as a christmas dinner at work, and of course drinks outside of work!
