  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Building services Design engineer. Performing design calculations for Heating, Ventilation and cooling systems in buildings. Working for lead engineers to help deliver their projects, attend design review meetings and make minutes.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • New skills would include using different types of software such as: IES Virtual Environment, AutoCAD, AutoDesk REVIT, SketchUp and a more advanced understanding of the tools available in Excel (Macros and complex formulas etc)

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy that everyday I have a new challenge and everyone I work with is open and available to talk to if I have any problems. I feel like I can ask any question. The courses provided as part of the Trainee Development programme were very engaging and definitely provided me with things to take into the work place.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Morgan Sindall?
  • Having received good feedback for a lot of the work I have done, that does make me feel valued by the company. When I hear my name being put forward for particular jobs that also makes me feel like the my managers know where I fit in the structure of the department which is good.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The MSPS programme consisted of 4 training days all with different workplace skills being taught, such as presentation skills and decision making. I felt like I learnt a lot from all of them and will definitely take on board what was taught into my day job.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We didn't have any work to do outside of the training days.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager is very supportive with any of my work needs. He has a very open desk policy and I know I can approach him if I have any need for support such as a day off to do University study before an exam.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Very well, no complaints here.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are lots of social events put on by other companies, however there is a lack of events put on by my company. The ones that have been organised were very good and it was good to see colleagues in a non work environment.

  • 9. Would you recommend Morgan Sindall to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The company is very focused on its training opportunities and can offer very good packages to those coming out of school or university.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Morgan Sindall?
  • Do some research on the company and the job you are applying for. Relax if you have an interview, the size of our company is fairly small so you don't need to feel like you are competing with thousands of others for the job like you would at bigger international firms.
