  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Trainee Civil engineer I set out and give levels in order to allow people to work and organise concrete pours and take surveys. I am currently involved in a hydro scheme on the west coast that has a wide range of infrastructure that will greatly help me develop as a young person at work

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am currently working towards a HND in civil engineering and I have achieved a cscs card I am also going to be dong a smts training course which will give a in depth understanding of health and safety on site and allow me to run sites as and when require if I am found to be compenant to do so

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy working as it allows me to construct things I like I enjoy working as part of the team as it is good fun and also allows me to learn from others that are in the team the company's a whole met my expectations if not exceeded them

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Morgan Sindall?
  • I feel very valued by manager and other members of the team and from the company it self I know this as I do frequent reviews with my manager and my mentor which is very helpful for me to know how well im doing and how valued I am or how I can become more valued

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very well organised and structured which makes it easy to learn and develop I am offered a wide range of training and support from other colleges from within the company Initially my programme was not that well organised but once it was it was very clear and easy to follow

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • As much as need or require which is great as I can develop my knowledge and understanding a lot further than I could without this intern this improves how good I am at my job Yes I am currently enjoying the course that I am on and wish to continue it

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As much as they can provide which is great as this allows me to be more effective at my job and be more of and effective contributor to my team and colleges there attitude to supporting me is very good which makes it very easy and simple to get support

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • covers my living costs and travel costs to a certain exstent it does not however help me with the location as I have to subsidise my own accommodation which I would like to see change as it can be difficult to afford this is one of the very few points id like to see improve

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are a few opportunities which are available through a scheme through work which gives you money off certain activities which is beneficial as it opens up opportunities I other wise wouldn't be able to afford I am also hoping to take part in the cycle to work scheme which would be enyoable

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Good company to work for and cant do enough for you which means it is easy to learn and develop as a person and make it a lot less daunting for a young person entering work which is very helpful also the opportunities for training are invaluable for not only work but life


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Morgan Sindall?
  • Be yourself and if you will fit in you will and that's the best way also make your previous work known and your qualifications you have achieved also Also don't try to hard and be prepared to know a bit about the company and what they do and how they operate
