I have done a few different roles since joining the company, at the moment I am running my own internal project (previously with another member but they have moved on now). I am handling all areas of this and I feel confident and able to do this effectively
Through training with QA I have gone from no knowledge in my field to a good knowledge in development, web development and theory. In my job I have gained the opportunity to train and learn more development languages. I trained in Java, I now work in VBA. I am able to develop my people skills and professional soft skills every day.
I have always worked as part of a small team, which is for the most part my least favorite part of the job. it feels quite isolating most of the time. The company culture is not great for apprentices as there is next to no social contact. I did enjoy my job but now I am starting to get burnt out. There is also a big lack of communication and understanding between CGI and it's apprentices
Not very, I receive recognition from the company. but the lack of transparency is very disheartening. Also many apprentices are taken on in Reading and sent to work in Leatherhead. I am not able to make the trip, so I remained in reading. This was not mentioned in the interviews.
QA and CGI had different ideas on how long the process would be. This created a lot of confusion. Much of the course material is very out of date, it's also been a battle to get full clarity of the apprenticeship program with CGI. especially anything surrounding Pay scales. This is now in place however...
A fair amount, we were able to get help when needed. QA was helpful and supportive
I feel supported by the employer, different from my above comments I do believe CGI looks after the apprentices well, it's just the lack of clarity and transparency that causes annoyance. It feels as if CGI does not really understand the difference between an apprentices and normal employee but, at the same time uses the differences to pay badly and ask more of the apprentices.
Not very well, I have come to the end of my apprenticeship and live very much pay to pay. I don't feel as if I am paid enough for the work that I am doing also I am expected to travel and cannot by any means afford a car.
there is a social club that I do not use, there is no social community for apprentices in the reading office as most are sent to leather head
No
Apprenticeship scheme was good but, I feel CGI has a way to go in order to become a better apprenticeship provider. This is falling into place but, I feel this is only because my group (the first) were able to push issues that we were facing and request change. Further down the road it will be better.
Very standard interview process, Ensure you are able to travel. Make sure you agree terms on relocation
