  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • • Leading a team of people and supporting them in their delivery and personal development. • Ensure health and safety commitments are met, including proactively supporting wellbeing and mental health of the team and leading by example. • Leading and managing change in the team in line with, and contributing to, the development of Natural England, and in response to impacts from external factors e.g. the Covid-19 pandemic • Inspire, motivate, and develop the staff through an appropriate mix of leadership, guidance, support, coaching, line and functional management. • Managing staff performance and the quality of their delivery to ensure targets are met. • Managing staff corporate compliance and ensuring all required returns (e.g. expenses statements) are completed to deadline • Working with other Team Leaders to enable effective use resource as workloads fluctuate or priorities change. • Providing a point of contact for staff to take forward new ideas and holding regular team briefing sessions or meetings as appropriate to engage with staff about wider team and corporate news. • Proactively dealing with complex and contentious issues relating to people and delivery of project outcomes. • Acting as a role model for Natural England’s ways of working and leading by example in complying with Natural England’s procedures • Leading on Learning and Development across Wessex area

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • So far yes. Especially, time management tools are very helpful for me and my team.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy it a lot. My partner is doing Apprenticeship with another provider and they don't have coach presenting a Module with them. I think self-learn approach is old fashion and people don't learn best that way. We are not in school anymore. Our coach is encouraging us to have debates and share experiences.

  • To me very very organised as I know what is coming.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I see my manager every week and we shape my role towards delivery of apprenticeship requirements. I took additional role as Learning and Development lead and this helps with it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • To early to say. My coach [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] has been very helpful so far.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My performance is definitely better since I started my apprenticeship as I am able to implement new tool and techniques with my company and my staff

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes. I work in environment setting, so we go out alot

  • 9a. Would you recommend Natural England to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is very flexible place to work. Culture is very inclusive and staff are very friendly. I have been working here for 11 months and it doesn't feel like I would like to move anywhere.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Natural England?
  • Any Civil Service jobs require STAR system competencies. You should work on that. Otherwise, you won't pass application form part.
