  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role includes communicating with International Mental Health Nurses and Occupational Therapists who are in different stages of the recruitment process. I answer their questions in regards to the process and ask them to provide us with the documentation required for our pre-employment checks. I also communicate and liaise with International Recruitment Agencies and other NHS Trusts who we are recruiting on behalf of.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many skills since I began working at Solent NHS Trust. I have developed my communication skills massively as my line manager was able to support me in developing my confidence, particularly over the phone. I have also developed my time management skills, relationship building and general organisation skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • This has been an incredible experience for me and I cannot believe how much I have grown as a person and professionally in the past year. I have really enjoyed being able to learn on the job and gain so much experience and develop my skills to the point where I have progressed within my role already.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structured. I receive regular support meetings from my college assessor and my line manager and work colleagues have always been involved in my college work and my development as an apprentice. I was given a thorough induction when I first began working here, and the support has always been incredible.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My tutor is very responsive when I email asking for help and is happy to put in a Teams call to discuss my progress or discuss any issues or concerns I may have. She also ensures that we have regular catch up meetings to discuss my project, my course and my progress within my role.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification does help me to better perform in my role as I am able to apply techniques and skills that I have learnt in my college classes to real life scenarios that occur in the workplace. I also feel that my qualification has given me the opportunity to research more into my job, role and industry.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are often virtual events that take place which I attend such as Diversity and Inclusion talks which I find very interesting and informative. • 9a. Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Solent NHS Trust has given me so much experience and helped me to develop my skills in the year that I have been here. Everyone I have interacted with has been incredibly supportive of my apprenticeship and my development within the organisation. Everyone has a positive attitude towards the organisation and we all have the same goals and values in mind.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • I would advise that you thoroughly read the job description and person specification, as well as ensure that you are doing as much research about the organisation and the values before the interview. You are very likely to be asked about the organisational values within the interview as this is something that we apply to our everyday working lives.
