  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I manage the Computer Aided Facilities Management system, I also manage all the floorplans and updates for the Trust. My job role also inputs into the finance and billing for the Trust. I also manage the room booking system, Trustwide. I also help with moves and changes and various different projects that are across the Trust. I am also involved in sustainability projects across the Trust.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt so many new skills since starting this course. Including theories and techniques to assess my own self-awareness. I have also learnt how much more there is to project management and the different theories and tools available to help with various different projects. I also thoroughly enjoyed the finance module as my role often only has a small amount to do with finance and budgets so this really opened my eyes to finance and the different figures within finance.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed my programme and how the course is set out. The only thing to let it down was the fact that Qube went into administration and due to this I had a large gap in the middle of my course. If I didn't have this, I feel the learning would have been more continuous and therefore I would find going into my EPA a little easier. However, I know this couldn't be helped.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe the course it really well structured! I think all of the units link together and are just as important as each other. I also believe the modules cover the element of management/ operational management very well. I would 1000% recommend this course to others who have just started within management and may find it useful. In fact, I have recommended the course several times to fellow colleagues.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer at my current job role is extremely supportive of training in general and was extremely supportive of me continuing and completing this course. They believe this will help with my future career progression. My employer has also stated they are happy to continue supporting further development and courses to help support this management qualification.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support I have received from my training providers had been very varied. I had a lot of support from Qube however when I switched to Paragon, I only really had my EPA to complete and therefore my tutor has stated that we don't need to catch up very much as I have no further learning to complete. I can contact my tutor, if I need any additional assistance.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe this qualification has helped me immensely throughout my role and in my day to day job. I often think of different tools, theories and techniques that I have learnt from this course and transfer these into my day to day role. I have learnt an invaluable amount of skills from this course, also the amount I have learnt about myself, through the self-awareness module has been incredibly useful! I think everyone in the workplace should have the self-awareness knowledge so they understand how this affects others.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes. There are lots of networks that I can get involved in, we also have Yoga sessions available in person or online at Oxleas. As well as this, we have Schwartz Rounds every 1-2 months, which gives great time for learning from peers and understanding others job roles within the organisation. We also have classified ads on the staff intranet, this ranges from office furniture to cars and personal items. As well as this, we also have an opportunity to get involved in Shadow Exec. This is an opportunity to shadow and learn from the exec team for 1 year.

  • 9a. Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe the flexibility of the job gives you control over your work/home life balance. I also feel a great sense of teamwork and respect at Oxleas. I feel very valued and listened to and I have the opportunity to discuss my own views, ideas and opinions within a safe space. I believe the salary is competitive when compared with other similar NHS Trusts.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • Be open about the views and skills you have and openly discuss your career pathway and what you are hoping to achieve. I'd also strongly advise that any development or training opportunities that are granted should be grabbed with both hands! The NHS offers so much training and courses and this can be a huge advantage to working for the NHS and developing your own skills and knowledge.
