  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Public service bus driver. Check vehicle daily for faults. Completing daily vehicle defect card. Transport Public to from predetermined stops on Public highway. Customer service on information, times, prices and locations. Collection of payments both cash and cashless. Issue of tickets. Driving in safely and showing due care and attention to other road users. Ongoing annual cpc training.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Development of driving skills coming from professional road haulage background to a Public service vehicle experience. Development of road safety skills awareness aided by an onboard live system monitoring of driving. Development of customer services within the Public sector industry, with day to day interaction with the public as not only a driver but the frontline representative of the company.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I'm really enjoying the learning experience and the fact that the training programme is structured to fit around the end point position of PSV driver. Working in the actual environment with training events and meetings evenly spread throughout the year. With the training instructor also being from a relevant background within Stagecoach, who also still regularly drives.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The training programme is structured very well. With monthly meetings being integrated with the ongoing, on the job experience. It is advantageous too. Fitting in around the end point position of PSV driver. Giving insight and relevance to ongoing work experiences within a training relevant course. All planned with plenty of notice.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Stagecoach and the management have been very supportive and patient throughout my experience so far. From my very first interview, over 12 months before eventually joining the company. They are very approachable and encouraging. They communicate very well and over many different platforms. Especially during these uncertain and tough Covid times.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Our training instructor is very informative, knowledgeable and approachable. Always helpful if and there's anything you're stuck on or having difficulty with. Always there to assist if you have a problem. Very informative with a positive can do and encouraging attitude. Patiently breaking things down if you have a problem.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification helps me to perform daily, with a better understanding of the position of PSV driver. The relevance, information and experiences to apply to situations of the role. Gives solid knowledge and informed background to the position. Giving me the capability to carry out my duties to the best of my abilities.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • One extra activity currently is buddyboost. Buddyboost app is a virtual buddy-up with colleagues and support each other in exercising. Be it walking, running, cycling, dancing or anything to keep yourself and colleagues. Not only fit but motivated and be part of stagecoach community. Especially during the covid times we're in.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Stagecoach UK?
  • If you want to earn while you learn Stagecoach have fantastic opportunities. Well structured training programme. Approachable and flexible management team. Great company to work for. As a driver, I passed my driving test within 2 weeks, mentored and fully live within a month. Plenty of opportunities. Forward thinking company!
