  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a bus driver for Stagecoach in Peterborough, my normal day would involve checking that my bus for the day is safe to drive, then going out on my route for half the day, have lunch, then drive again for the second half of the day.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have dedeveloped my driving skills, I now drive a much bigger vehicle. I have also improved my customer service skills , and my knowledge of customer safety and security.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I always enjoy learning, so this has been great for me. If I had learnt to be a bus driver without the apprenticeship scheme, I would have learned things like rules and regulations, without knowing the reasoning behind them.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It seems well structured to me, but as this is the only apprenticeship scheme I've taken part in, I have nothing to compare it too.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employers have been great, throughout the process, I have always been given the time off needed for zoom calls, and all apprenticeship work has been done within my working hours.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • For the apprenticeship scheme that I am on, we would take one eight hour zoom call, roughly once a month. This has always been more than enough to complete the work for that month, and address any questions I have had. And all of the training providers I have worked with, have been bus drivers themselves, and are very knowledgeable about the industry.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Although it doesn't necessarily help with the actual driving of the bus, it has made me more knowledgeable about the industry itself, and the reasons why certain rules and procedures are in place.

    9/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not that I'm aware of.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Stagecoach UK to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Driving a bus is great fun. I work with some great people, and I really feel that it is an essential service, for a lot of people. So helping them get to where they need to be is satisfying for me.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Stagecoach UK?
  • Don't think about it, just go for it. You get lots of help and advice from everyone who works here.
