  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a business administrator, my daily role requires me to complete all different admin tasks, such as responding to emails, booking meetings and managing my managers diary. I also help with spreadsheet work and collecting data to put into a spreadsheet. My tasks vary on a day-to-day basis. I also organise meetings, make agendas for those meetings and write up the minutes.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my time since starting at the Financial Ombudsman Service I have learnt a lot of new things, especially as I have never done a similar role. I have been able to strengthen my Microsoft Office skills as I use the systems daily and also had training on the different apps such as outlook and excel which enabled me to widen my knowledge which was very helpful.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe the programme has been organised very well, especially as we have started and currently working remotely which could make it very difficult. When starting we had an induction and then 2 weeks of training and learning about the organisation and then we met our managers. I have regular meetings with my manager and we organise time for me to complete my study work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I believe I get a great deal of support from my employer, it is not just limited to my manager either. I feel like I am able to talk to anyone in my team or even other teams to get help or support with a task and everyone is extremely helpful and if they are unable to help you they will advise you who can. I also have a mentor and I have regular meetings with her, to get any advise or even for just a general chat to see how I am coping with my workload.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Considering the circumstances of starting it all remotely I feel that I have a good amount support from my training provider. She is very responsive to emails or calls which is extremely helpful and she helps with any questions not matter how trivial. She often will send emails to check how we are doing in between our scheduled sessions. She is very friendly and has such a positive attitude which makes the course more enjoyable too.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that I learn a wide variety of information in my qualification which could help me perform better in my role such as emotional intelligence and building team relationships. However I do find that sometimes the work within the qualification can be very repetitive and sometimes the tasks are not specific to my role and just very general.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there is a variety of networks to join, we was able to learn all about them when we first started and there is also a section on the internal intranet with all information about them all and how they can join. There is also virtual gym sessions you can join and there is often team engagement meetings/ events. I believe when we are back to normal (after covid) there will be more extra-curricular acitivites to get involved with.
