  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • When I arrive at work I collect my duty card and some times a defect card if I'm carrying out a first use check. I will then drive the bus on a selected bus route around Cheltenham or one of the other ares around Cheltenham, picking up and dropping off passengers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learnt new skills, I have carried out a CPC training course, which allows me to drive a bus as a qualified driver. I have also learnt to drive a bus after a few weeks training under a driving instructor I was able to take my PSV driving test.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy the driving and a friendly chit chat with the passenger's, the programme is enjoyable and as an apprentice great value and was very lucky to find it when I did, every one is easy to talk to and friendly and will help when they cab do so.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme seem's to be very good and the instructor I have is very helpful understanding and patient, I some what disagree with one has to prove their level of English and Maths via certification and not by previous employment and other qualifications that prove one has English and Math.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Quite a lot what with a pension scheme and a uniform provided and watching driver hours and working hours. A well being coach, staff parking for those who live more than 10 miles away and a complimentary staff bus back and forth to a park and ride car park all very good.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Quite a lot from our trainer instructor being very patient and helpful in every way he possibly can, it helps he has been a bus driver as well, knowing how our mind set works and giving scenario's of past experiences due to the other roles he has had at Stagecoach.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Our apprenticeship instructor is very good at pursuing our qualification, the qualification itself does some what slightly confuse me, training to become a qualified bus driver? I honestly thought once all parts of a the testing i.e. parts 1,2,3 and 4 one would be a qualified bus driver.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, presently they are organising a paint ball day out and Stagecoach themselves like to get involved in a lot of activities. There is a social media called the Blink if I was going to try and compare it with anything I would say Facebook. A well being support worker is also available if required.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Stagecoach UK to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have answered yes due to their not being a maybe option, not everyone enjoys driving I myself do like the driving, where as others seem like they have to do it and possibly would not recommend to friends. I enjoy interaction with passengers and the banter with other drivers.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Stagecoach UK?
  • I would have to say make sure the job is right for you as answered previouly not everyone enjoys driving. Also to make sure they would be comfortable with the shift patterns involved within Stagecoach it may not be everyone's cup of tea they can be slightly irregular and may upset homelife.
