  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis, i support the pod with the admin. This involves a range of different tasks, including the allocation of cases (sending cases to the right people to work on it), sifting cases (making sure the cases go into the right pool to then be allocated) and a lot of stats and data updating to do with the turnover of cases throughout the months.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since joining the pod, I have learned a lot of new skills, ranging from adhoc and minute taking to specific case work tasks. The minute taking comes along with the action task sheet. This involves taking note of the actions and who is responsible for each task and keeping up with them to make sure they are still working on it.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy everything about my job, from the people to the experience it is giving me. The people who i work with are very inclusive and make you feel very welcome to the team as if i had worked there for a long while as opposed to being the new starter.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured and organised as there is a very reasonable deadline for each and every task and that the task isn't too tough to handle individually and help is available. The structure is very clear as well, as you can see who is working and reporting to who and it makes a lot of sense.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from many people in the company. The company has given everyone their own mentor to help them through the apprenticeship. These are last years apprentices and they already have experience so they are a massive help. In addition, I receive a lot of help from my managers and senior investigators/advisers.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider gives me a lot of support for working towards my qualifications. The support i get is a lot of advice on the next module and a lot of assistance in working through certain tasks if i am struggling. Furthermore, she is always responsive when I send emails and getting back to me for my questions.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my training provider supplies a lot of support to help me perform better in my role. This is because a lot of the work does relate to what sort of work I do. for example, in the current module there was three tasks which were very closely related to the minute taking and chairing tasks i do.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Within my company, I am sure that there must be some extra curricular tasks that there are, however I do not participate with any of them. for example, within the company, we have these things called coffee roulette where two teams within the pod get mixed together and just socialise.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Financial Ombudsman Service to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend working here as the whole company is very inclusive and fun to work at. Everyone who i work with is extremely friendly and they all make you feel welcome, no matter how long you been working there. Furthermore, the work that we do is very life changing as we are solving cases

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Financial Ombudsman Service?
  • When applying, make sure you do your research on the company as you will want to be aware of what sort of role you will be doing. Make sure that the office is accessable to you and most importantly, make sure you are yourself going into the interview, as everyone is some friendly and welcoming that they will want you to be yourself!
