  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My current role is as an electrical design apprentice. Daily I work with other designers and engineers on a array of projects. I use my skills within CAD software to design 3D models for each of the projects and to help with creating aswell as changing and amending circuit diagrams

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Over the course of my apprenticeship I have learnt many new skills such as the skills mention previously using 3D CAD software. I also had a placement in a manufacturing plant and learnt further practical skills such as soldering, wire routing and other skills that would help me create better designs

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the job I do, the team I work with have a good level of humour, though can always turn to them if I need any further assistance with anything. The project work that I work on is interesting and i enjoy the aspects of the design work that I have to complete

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structure, with going into college 1 day a week to complete each section of the apprenticeship (BTEC, HNC, HND) there's a clear divide between work and studying. the first year Apprentice Development Programme sets the rest of the apprenticeship up well and allows you to meet the other apprentices from the company from around the country. the training opportunities are also there if wanted and the support offered throughout

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • From my employer I receive high amounts of support. If I need assistance with any of the work that I am completing there is always somebody to ask. The company operates a buddy and mentor system so there is always somebody to turn to when assistance and support is required,

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The college does offer a lot of support to assist with achieving the qualifications. The tutors are on hand if there are any questions on how to achieve the highest grade we want. If there are any issues we have a student rep that we can talk to who will be able to feedback to higher management within the college

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification that I'm receiving definitely helps with the work that I am doing and helps me perform better in my role, I am constantly learning new equations and calculations that are going to help me further down the line when I want to further my development from design through to engineering.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are multiple extra curricular activities to get involved in, one of this which i get involved in is a curry night which happens every three months. There are other activities which other people partake in such as tables tennis over lunch breaks. The company also holds lunch and learn networking activities over lunch time on some occasions

  • 9a. Would you recommend Cavendish Nuclear to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel that Cavendish Nuclear is a good place to work, I definitely see future with Cavendish. There are many development opportunities within the company and the work that is there to complete is interesting and enjoyable. The people that work at Cavendish are friendly and there's always someone there to assist when needed.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cavendish Nuclear?
  • The tips that I would give to someone who is wanting to apply for an apprenticeship at Cavendish Nuclear is to research the company and the job role in which you are applying to learn about it. Be prepared the share certificates and grades from any qualifications that you may already have.
