  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Learning to be a pipe welder, working all around the UK Scotland, Birmingham, and Somerset so far. Doing flux core, MMA and TIG welding processes and using angle grinders and hand tools.

  • I learn how to weld to x-ray standard, stick weld on plate carbon steel and flux, core weld on carbon steel.

  • I enjoy it very much, but I feel it would be improved by better communication and honesty.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It has been very badly organised, but the opportunity I have been given has been amazing.

  • Little to no support. We get minimal contact with our employer.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • It has been a very hands off approach to training, so we have had to train ourselves, but this should be better now as we have moved to Tipton in Birmingham for a 12 week training programme which should help us a lot.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Without our codings, we would not be able to go onto sites and get the hands on training we need.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have done some team building activities, and I believe we will do some more in the near future.

  • Yes

  • Despite the problems we have experienced, the opportunities we have gained are amazing.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cavendish Nuclear?
  • If you need to address any problems copy more than one person in and do follow up emails until you get the issues resolved.
