My role as a Manufacturing Engineer is to ensure the operators have all the required documents to build the product and ensuring they are up to standard. Along side this I am expected to identify cost our projects to improve the build process.
I have been with the company for 5 years. In the past 2 years I have been seen as a full time ME. I have gained many different skills during this time but continue to develop everyday.
I have enjoyed my time at GE from the Manufacturing Engineering point of view, the team have been very welcoming.
The apprenticeship training program was unorganised and I very often felt I was having to manage my own apprenticeship with little/no guidance. Communication between the training provider and my company was often patchy and i constantly got mixed messaged of what was required from me.
I received lots of support from the Manufacturing Engineering team in regards to training me up to a high standard. I did not receive the same level from the apprenticeship lead and it felt that the apprentice course was not prioritised by the business.
The lecturers at my training provider (Gloucestershire Engineering Training) were fantastic, they could not have given me a better foundation however the higher management did not provide the same level of support to learners.
I feel my qualification is crucial to my role as an ME. I would not be able to carry out my job if i did not have my NVQ.
They are are few however COVID has impacted these massively.
Yes
I have enjoyed my time at GE and feel like I still have lots to learn and many more opportunities to learn.
Never be afraid to ask a question. I was unsure what to ask when i first began and i regret that, there is a vast amount of experience on this site and it is essential to take it all in.
