1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

On a day to day basis i am responsible for sourcing and buying the parts that are needed in order for the engines to be repaired. We track these parts onto site and ensure that they are issued within the time needed. I also have inventory projects that I manage.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

One of the main skills that i have developed is confidence. In this role you need to be able to speak to different people from different departments which helps to build confidence. I have also developed knowledge about the industry that i was not aware of prior to working at GE Aviation.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The program meets all of my expectations, the team that I work with are all helpful and supportive and they help to make the apprenticeship very enjoyable. There are many departments throughout the business that you can work in in order to gain more knowledge which makes the whole experience better.

4. How well organised/structured is your programme?

The program is organized well and we get support when needed from mentors. We have regular reviews with both the mentors and our college tutor where we can evaluate how well we are working and see what can be changed. The main support that you get is from the team that you are placed in as they train you from start to finish.

5. How much support do you receive from your employer?

If there are any issues i always escalate them to my mentor within the team. If i need anything further that they cannot help with i then go to my apprenticeship manager. HR are also available to help with any issues and give guidance to any problems that you may experience.

6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We receive a great amount of support from our college tutor. She is always available to ring/email/message and responds very quickly. if we need guidance or have any problems i know i can always contact her and she will be happy to help. This makes the process more enjoyable.

7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel like my qualification helps slightly within my role. As the industry is so specific there is only so much of the theory work that you are able to put into practice but some units do help greatly. Although completing the evidence for my qualification does help to expand what i do within my role.

8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are often activities that we get involved in. At the beginning of the apprenticeship we spent a week in Glan-Llyn an outdoor activities center to help our group get to know each other. i also attend social events such as Christmas parties and when our office team does things outside of work.

Yes

9b. Why?

I would recommend GE Aviation to a friend as it is a well recognized business and the qualifications that you gain are also recognized. It is also a large business with many opportunities and chances to evolve and learn more. They are supportive to apprentices and the job is very enjoyable.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GE Aerospace?

The advice that i would give to people applying for an apprenticeship is to be as confident as possible. Also to learn some things bout the business for the interview process. The assessments can be difficult when applying but they ensure you are capable of working at GE. They provide great experience and opportunities so i would recommend to anyone that's thinking of applying.
