My job involves me dealing with customer complaints, organising the team, leading a shift, handling cash, doing stock counts (liquor and food), serving customers, training new staff members, replying to emails, holding the business when my general manager is away, recruitment, doing probationary reviews with staff members and the opening and closing of the business on time.
The only things I have learnt new would be certain terminology, which is always interesting, however nothing that would particularly help me with my day to day job. I also wouldn’t say I have developed any existing skills as I believe to already be very well trained and this course is quite basic.
I don’t particularly enjoy the programme I am on. I have had 3 different trainers in the space of a year who all teach me differently, this has also dragged my course out longer than it should have been going on for. I don’t feel like I learn much.
Not very, trainers don’t seem to understand the portal half the time so I don’t know how I’m supposed too. Something is always going wrong with the computers in some way or another and I don’t really get set any work to do for my next visit so I don’t really understand.
I received a good amount of support from my general manager, he really wants me to do well on my course and gives me enough time to get stuff done and works it around my hours at work well. It is just the trainer I find I don’t get much support from.
Not a lot after the session but enough during I suppose, I just get told I can give him a call, however that is more support than the last 2 I have had, they were just in and out and that is the end of it. Again I never really get anything set to do after the session.
I don’t feel like it has made one bit of difference to my role at work. It doesn’t help me with my day to day job at all, I just learn a few new words, I don’t learn anything new, most of it is just common sense.
Not that I am aware of no. Obviously team incentives throughout the pub and the area are give out but other than that I wouldn’t say anything extra-curricular no, I don’t think many people would have time for any extra-curricular activities anyway when working 48 hours a week.
Yes
It is a good company to work for, I have always felt appreciated by my general manager and area manager, I think I earn a fair wage and I feel as I get listened to when I speak up. I also just enjoy my job, it can be very stressful but is also very rewarding.
Make sure you have done your research into Greene king and to you know what brand you would like to work for e.g hungry horse, chef and brewer, pub and grill... It is a good company and very rewarding but also very tiring and challenging at times so you have to want to work in a fast paced job.
