  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills both while working practically and also by the online training, from my managers and also from my various NVQs, in particular during my last NVQ, my trainer was incredibly helpful to me and very knowledgable. Likewise my managers (GM and DGM) provided me with hands on training to various systems and procedures needed to do my job.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I did not really enjoy the programme, I found it incredibly challenging and pushed me to limits, however with the help, support and guidance from my trainer and my managers, I was able to continue to complete the NVQ whilst still learning new things to enable me to complete my job role well and to gain the NVQ.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • In the beginning, there was not much structure and guidance and I had 4 different trainers for one NVQ, which I found particularly challenging. However, as previously stated, my last trainer was absolutely fantastic and from then on, things were very well structured and I had a much better understanding of what was expected of me and when in terms of coursework and tests.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Both my manager and deputy manager were absolutely fantastic and supported me all the way through what was an incredibly long and challenging experience. Both always made sure that they made time to teach me things and would ensure I understood things that they were trying to teach me and why we do things the way we do.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As previous stated, there were various issues with trainers during my NVQ, due partly to me moving sites and them moving on. During this time, it was incredibly frustrating and I felt very unsupported by them and quite let down. However, the last trainer I had more than made up for this and made me actually want to continue the NVQ when previous lack of support made me want to give it up.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Whilst do the NVQ (with my last trainer) I felt that his own experiences in hospitality along with my two managers, was incredibly helpful and invaluable to me which I learned many things from and how to deal with certain circumstances. My trainer and I would often discuss situations which had arisen during my week and he was able to relate experiences of his own and how he dealt with them.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The nature of our job means we are often working many hours (including evenings and weekends) on different shifts to help other people make the most of their tome off and also their special occasions such as weddings and Christmas, meaning the likelihood of any of the team having any time off together to get involved in extra curricular activities is extremely unlikely. So no there was not anything extra.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • To be fair to greene king, although I no longer work for them, they do offer a good benefits package. Such as hefty discount on food and drink during your shifts and also other good discounts and offers on food for yourself and family and friends when not working, this also applies to discount on hotel rooms within greene king. There is also the many opportunities to progress work wise by all the training and NVQs on offer.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
  • You have to be prepared to work often ridiculously long hours for little pay, although as I previously stated, there are good discounts on offer if you want to/have time to take up those offers. Also if you are ambitious, you should take advantage of all the training on offer, as there are many opportunities to progress through the company.
