  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • To be able to run a shift and team and make sure the shift runs as smoothly as possible and doing managerial stuff such as the tills at the end of the night and making sure the fire doors and toilets and windows are locked and to be there if there is a problem and to be able to deal with it in the correct manner

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt to be more confident with my ability to handle complaints with people as beforehand i was quite shy until i got to know the regulars break out of my shell, but we have had problems with recent new regulars causing problems majority of the times they are in the pub and now i know how to handle the situations with them better

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • to be honest i have enjoyed a few aspects of the programme, for example when doing the complaints handling situation when me and my trainer took it in turns to handle complaints while the other acted out as if they were drunk or on drugs it did make me laugh a lot but then there was other aspects i found interesting like team management and the business side to which i did not know that much about but the workbooks were massive and took a while to complete and felt drained after them

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the programme is very well structured and made it very manageable as my trainer set me goals that were SMART (another thing i learnt while on the course) which made the work easier as i did quite a bit on the big work books first and got them out of the way quite fast and work supported me throughout as they asked if i needed help they made my shift fit around my appointment such as id have it 10am friday they would get me to start 12pm as i live 2.5 miles away from my work

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I got loads of support from all members of staff at the pub as they always asked how my last session went and when it came to the handling complaints session they were all volunteering to be customers for that one which made it easier for me i felt. If i did not know a question in the work book i could text my tutor and she would go through it with me at the next session to help me understand more

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • If i did not know a question in the work book i could text my tutor and she would go through it with me at the next session to help me understand more and she would make it relevent to the company and then i could use another example just to see if i understood it. i would reccomend Debbie to anyone thats doing a qualification through lifetime training as she supports you very well.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Very well as i have learned stuff through this qualification that i could apply while working and it makes the shift go easier and i have been more vigilant and aware of my surroundings and especially the handling complaints due to all the scenarios we went through helped and i feel like i have gained more confidence when speaking to customers

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

  • 9a. Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • There are so many Greene King pubs all over England, Wales and Scotland, it would be easy to get a transfer to another Greene King pub and because of this there is so many jobs opportunities and progression in your career for example i could transfer to another pub as a Team Leader when completing the course and could get put onto the next course to progress my career even more

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
  • Just to be yourself and do not try and lie in the interview because you will be found out. You do not even need experience as most pubs train you in house, if you stick to the job and go above and beyond it will get noticed and you could be rewarded and management could decide to put you on a course such as this one
