  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Day to day, I handle the business requests for the IT Operations team. This involves going around the business and gathering the business requirements for each request from the various stakeholders. A project I am running is to implement a business intelligence system for the Finance team.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • From the very beginning, I was encouraged to learn the fundamentals of office life: how to write emails; meeting etiquette; how to conduct yourself around the office with all levels of the business. These are skills that have continuously been enhanced from the various experiences I have gained. Moreover, I would say my confidence has improved to speak to senior members of the business by going up to them and asking the questions required.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think it takes time getting used to. Some of the onus is on the provider but the majority is down to you to make the programme work with you and your working life. That being said I think that it could have been clearly set up from the beginning - 6 months into the process we changed the submission portal which took some time getting used to.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I think it takes time getting used to. Some of the onus is on the provider but the majority is down to you to make the programme work with you and your working life. However, the sheets outlining the tasks are very detailed breaking down the points that you are going to be marked against.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I do not have many expenses so my job covers all of those with the ability to be flexible enough to buy what I want and still have some left over to save for the rainy days. Furthermore, Colt provide various benefits and discounts such as private health care.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are a few. My job role doesn't involve me leaving the office and going to many events but I have ventured out to a few. I am looking to start a club and speaking to HR they have encouraged me to do so therefore the opportunities for extra activities are there.

  • Be yourself. I think everyone at Colt responds well to authenticity and would rather you present yourself in the best possible way than try to be something you are not.
