  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The job title is a apprentice. But due to the nature of the programme you get moved around the firm into areas that you are interested. Usually you perform any of the jobs a graduate would. You work within a team and if that team if client facing you will work and speak to the clients as well. You will work on various projects, again depending on your team and department, which will be varied in size and industry. Usually day to day tasks will be working through your project or your part of the client job.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • You are continually trained from the start towards AAT level 3 and then this goes onto level 4 and then Chartered as the long term goal. There is an option for a Tech degree after year one. There is internal training that you can do that covers anything that you will need in your working life. This covers and of the personal or professional skills that you will need.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The work is manageable and interesting. The teams have always been friendly and helpful. The company culture is great and was one of the reasons I applied to KPMG. It has met my expectations and I am still enjoying myself. There is always something new to do and learn so you don't feel like you are mired in a position or given administrative tasks.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by KPMG?
  • I feel valued. The managers help and interact with you. Usually they are managers because they take the job and people seriously. You are included in projects and tasks and you can always ask for more. The 360 programme has been in newspapers and article and always reported on favourably. You are looked after better than the grads as you have a designated management team that oversees your progression within KPMG.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is well structured but still is undergoing changes. This is because it still is relatively new. Training is offered for you exams and placements. Support if offered for all of this. You study after work and on weekends but if this ids planned out then there shouldn't be any issues to get it done. There is a hierarchy within in your teams but this only because of job titles - you are the bottom but everyone has been. you get delegated tasks but there is usually some independence to get these done by yourself if you can.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • There is good support from BPP. The tutors have been great for me and any queries are picked up on and addressed. You are given support after study periods for any help that you need. Usually they contact you if you haven't said anything just to check up on you. I have enjoyed my studies thus far.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There continual support from management in exams, placements, work and personal issues. There is support for anything outside of team on help lines or with councillors. Everyone has a positive attitude towards supporting you and this I think is firm wide.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is good (but a raise is always welcome) and with a daily lunch allowance it goes a long way. Travel costs can be expensive but I haven't had an issue yet. there are interest free loans that can be taken out for season tickets etc. Railcards can be bought and then expensed. In London it is expensive but the pay if increased for this. Canary Wharf is accessible and a pleasant enough for a commute. Going out in Canary Wharf is expensive so going else where is better.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are a lot of company events. Ted talks, voluntary opportunities, sports teams, clubs and KPMG organised learning events. Some of the opportunities for volunteering include going back to your school, surrounding schools, charity work and things for local communities. There is a good work life balance with time to do what you would want after work.

  • 9. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a friendly place to live that sets a high standard and give opportunities.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • Really research the KPMG websites. This is to search for what they preach about so what they look for in employees. There aren't intense grilling sessions so be ready fore some questions but they are mainly situational and assessing team work and character. To get to this stage you will already of passed any test or requirements. You are assigned a buddy before you start where you can ask any questions that you want to ask.
