I am working in a database administrative role where I am currently being trained on Microsoft SQL Server. On a day-to-day basis I combine theoretical learning with practical learning, familiarizing myself with the software and the types of issues my team deals with daily.
I have learnt the basic fundamentals of Microsoft SQL Server and the types of issues my team has to resolve. I am enjoying learning a specific skill.
Our degree is relevant to the types of roles within our job which makes our core studying that more interesting as I can provide real examples in my degree reports and can apply what I am studying to my job role.
If I have ever had any concerns, issues or wanted some clarification on anything that I am unsure of, I have a handful of people that I could go to and have never felt that I have to suppress any feelings that I have.
Although this is the first year of the degree programme, personally I find the programme well structured. We are granted two days in the week for our degree and three days in office with our team, which has worked out to be a nice and a fair balance or studying and work experience.
We have quarterly catchups with our university provider as well as, all contact details to communicate with our lecturers. Therefore, if I ever need to raise a concern or I have a question, the university takes no longer than 48 hours to reply.
I receive a great amount of support from my employer. We not only have the schools team who manage and look after all apprentices and have their best interest but I also have my aligned team and line manager.
Currently, my salary and rent have been an issue but am trying to find a new place to live to make my rent significantly lower. It has been a lengthy process as I have waited to find someone to move in with to me costs less. But currently, no my salary does not meet my costs of living.
Work wise, we are constantly inv9olved in going around to local schools helping out with mock interviews and promoting the programmes.
