The key to the role is the ability to influence and engage stakeholders through the project timeline whilst ensuring adherence to the governance process.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes! So Many!! I've learned a lot around stakeholder management, communication styles and preferences. I've been able to further report writing skills, and make sure that I can write a report that is tailored to it's audience and aimed at much higher levels within the business. I understand lean process design now, and have furthered my career into a role that without the apprenticeship would not have been an area open to me.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme has its challenges, scheduling things in around my work or meetings. The level of evidencing required wasn't something that I was familiar with, but has been easy to adopt, and the regular feedback really helps me as a person develop further and progress or push myself. The project timeline is really clear, and easy to understand what is due when, meaning I can plan around it.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It's really clearly laid out, I know when each submission is due, and have done since the start of the programme. I understand the content of each submission piece and love how the classes are reflective of the submissions due out, having that learning relevant and in the forefront really helps me when I'm working on my submission pieces. As while I live the role, I can adapt the focus depending on the requirements for that time.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • So so much! I couldn't recommend highly enough! I have regular touch points with my coach, and my line manager attends these too. The one day per week I get from my employer ensures that I can maintain a great work-life balance, and can focus on bettering myself wholly for that period of time. I love how I can choose how I use that time, depending on my needs or requirements, be it using the time to complete some of my submission, or spending time with an expert in the field to ensure that I have a great well-rounded portfolio, understanding and experience

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider give me the regular touchpoints with the coach, as well as the virtual lessons, the provider have also made efforts to set up supporting groups, a virtual campus etc. The feedback provided for the submissions is laid out clearly, helping me to understand the improvements required or that I can make to stretch myself and improve the overall outcome.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • For me it's been invaluable, I've obtained a secondment (temporary) role within the change management area, and without being part of this course I don't think I would have been able to land something at this point, it would have taken a bit more going around the houses collecting experience in a range of areas. While my role is only temporary I know that the combination of the experience and the qualification will help propel my career to the area I know I belong.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are networking opportunities, as well as forums that I'm able to sit in on, and utilise.

  • 9a. Would you recommend The AA to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I've been able to progress myself, to figure out what I like from my career, and what I don't, all thanks to the structure and the support of The AA. I know that without the wonderful people that have supported me, and worked with me I wouldn't be where I am today, focussed on making it a better place for me, my colleagues, and the next person lucky enough to land a role here.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The AA?
  • Be honest about what you want, if you're not sure, that's ok too! Be open to new experiences and learning about other departments, you might not know what you do want, but trying different things will really help you determine what you don't want, and that can be just as valuable. Look for peers, people you can look up to or aspire to be like, ask them how they got to where they are, is there anything they'd recommend to help you get there.
