  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Day to day tasks would include working on aircraft engines, specifically GE90 and CFM56-5B/7B completing tasks such as stripping components, building modules, completing NVQ assesments, working alongside qualified engineers and gaining understanding of technical data and components as well as understanding the business and managment structure of the business.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have personally learnt countless new skills whilst in the apprenticeship. learning things such as engineering, maths, hand skills, communication skills, general aviation knowledge as well as learning how to interact and deal with internal problems and how to solve them efficiently and effectively, I think that the apprenticeship teaches many new skills and helps to develop existing skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the program and look forward to coming into work, everyone in the business has been very accomodating of apprentices and make an attempt to teach us as much as possible, the pay and beneits are very good for our position as well as this food facilities are on site so you do not have to travel or bring in food for lunch

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The business is very organised and structured well, lik evry workplace there is room for improvment however I would suggest that a business of this size is incredibly difficult to manage and organise, when a problem is reckognised the problem is usually resolved quickly and efficiently, it is rare that problems are disregarded or ignored.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support is offered to employees through multiple different methods but I would say in general ther is always someone to reach out to to voice concerns and managers usually try to resolve the issues for you quickly and efficiently, for example if you require time to complete your NVQ, they are usually understanding and will let you complete this in work time.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Consistent and regular reviews are carried out and the majority of tutors are always happy to help or to educate you beyond just in the classroom, I would say in my experience the standard of teaching in Coleg Y Cymoedd is excellent and teachers generally go above and beyond what is expected.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Some modules are very relevant to your job role such as the gas turbine module, however some units are less applicable. I would say I have learned something out of every unit I have completed and Tutors generally have experience in the field so they can help to show you how the unit you are learning is applicable to your job.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Plenty of extra-curricular activities to be involved in such as engineering projects, PR events such as STEM school events and careers fairs to attend as well as events such as the 3 peaks and regualr round tables to attend, I would say it would be beneficial to have in future some kind of sports team to further increase engagement.

  • 9a. Would you recommend GE Aerospace to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • My experience in GE Aerospace has been very positive and I would suggest that there is plenty to learn and develop your personal skills, the pay and benefits are good and I think there is a lot of value to the apprenticeship as you learn and earn at the same time.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GE Aerospace?
  • I would suggest learning as much as possible before the interview process and work hard to show the best version of yourself to the company, one of the hardest parts of the apprenticeship is the interview process so dont dismiss it, try to present yourself well and be confident, good luck.
