  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Answering tickets that come in from stores, these can involve fixing store hardware, store computers, replacing hardware that is broke and unfixable. Typically will also get involved in building hardware such as store tablets, installing windows among other things. Also, working with my mentor to learn fixes for common problems.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have definitely learnt new skills. I now have an extensive knowledge of various IT tools, apps, and programmes to aid me in troubleshooting and diagnosing problems, As well as this, i have improved my social skills and confidence with employers and collaborative work, as the team has been very supportive and helpful in all aspects of the job.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme very much. It has helped me to not only develop critical skills, but also allowed me to gain the confidence in myself to keep learning and pushing myself, as well as forcing me to put my theoretical skills into a practical scenario. This expands my learning and motivates me to keep going.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well organised and structured. I have to come in every Tuesday at the same time, for the same amount of hours. The team also make sure that my work covers a lot of different avenues that could help in my development as a future IT worker, and worker in general.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive an outstanding amount of support from my employer and colleagues. My mentor walks me through each ticket i don’t understand, ensuring to deliver an accurate, detailed explanation to make sure I remember it for the next time. I have frequent check ups to see how im getting on and whether i need any further help or support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Walsall College provides me with the neccessary theoretical and practical skills to excel in a wide range of computer related jobs. They help in the searching for jobs, as well as teach valuable skills such as those involving an interview. They provide detailed, extensive lessons on the topics they need to cover.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My training provider helps me to perform better in my role as they teach me the vital IT and social skills, such as professionalism and punctuality, that help me to create a high level of work within the workplace, as well as being respectful with my colleagues and working brilliantly in a team.

  • Yes

  • Poundland is a perfect workplace for anyone who wishes to develop their general IT skills, and gain a deep confidence in themselves, through working with a team and learning vital skills such as punctuality and professionalism. Poundland has really helped me with applying my theory skills into a practical environment, and i would recommend it to any T-level takers.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Poundland?
  • My tip to anyone else working at Poundland would be to always push yourself and keep learning more as each and every ticket is solvable in some way. You need to learn how to explain technical terms and concepts in a non technical way, also ensuring that your colleagues work closely with you, sparking a sense of collaboration.
