  • I am responsible in leading the workforce planning and expansion in apprenticeship activity, to enable workforce development and transformation and meeting real workforce challenges. This role involves planning and leadership to the expansion of apprenticeships, identifying new opportunities for apprenticeships, being inclusive and contributing to Workforce Race Equality Standard (WRES) and Workforce Disability Equality Standard (WDES) action plans. Making a persuasive case for the use of apprentices in a range of new settings and leading this complex change for the Trust. Working alongside both clinical and non-clinical colleagues, providing expert guidance and senior leadership in designing, developing and implementing apprenticeship programmes which respond to real workforce challenges and representation of a wider and diverse workforce to enhance patient outcomes. Joint working and chairing of staff network meetings and committee forums to generate debate, negotiation and challenge mindsets to support new training initiatives. I am also responsible for interpreting changes in national policy and in turn developing Trust policies for the use of apprenticeships. Deputising for the Associate Director of Education, Training, OD and Talent Management, supporting the wider team in all education and training initiatives and HR practices.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to put the theory of OD into practice. This was always something missing from my portfolio. I would often undertake People Professional duties without knowing if I was approaching areas in the right way. Being able to understand why the theory is important has provided much more confidence in my ability.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed the OD workshops as the previous core ones which discussed areas such as Employee Law wasn't my skillset. The OD workshops provided me with assurance that I was on the right course! I do struggle with confidence, so the workshops forced me to come out of my shell more.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I thought it was structured well, the sessions were provided in advance which enabled me to plan ahead. I liked the fact we were sent slides in advance as I would often add notes alongside to help keep me on track with the learning and to help with associated assignments.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Up and down. It started well but as the course progressed towards the end it became quite difficult in managing. Although I would mark out dedicated time, much of this time got taken up with firefighting with day to day activities. It could often become quite hard to negotiate although I would try to be strict with my time
