  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I handle the admin side of commissioning for the channel 4 sports team, this means i will schedule meetings for them, look at potential pitch decks from production companies and then give my thought on them. when i first started i go to be involved in the contracting process for one of the sports that we have. Currently i am admin lead on a really cool project for the upcoming 2024 Paralympics.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned and developed lots of new skills while at channel 4. When i first started i had weekly meetings with my manager where he would go over things i need to know about commissioning such as camera placement for loads of different sports, how those sports then get put on TV. These meetings also gave me a chance to ask questions about my role there was ever anything i was confused about. I have also developed my Microsoft skills, i use outlook, word and excel on the daily so getting a chance to develop these skills really helped

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love working at channel 4. Everyone is so friendly and i know if i was to ever have any issues then they would all do their best to help. I love working in the sports team, everyone totally understands that i don't have the experience that they do so if anything comes up in a meeting that i don't understand then they are quick to clarify it. Channel 4 in general is a great place to work as everybody is so understanding and accommodating. The office is so relaxed and not intimating. i love it

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I have my apprenticeship day on a Monday, I will have been set a few tasks by my apprenticeship coordinator that i will be able to get on with. On a Monday i don't do office work so it's essentially like a study day. every two weeks i will have a meeting with my apprenticeship coordinator where she will explain tasks and ask if there is anything i need help with or would like to do. I really like my apprenticeship because i can choose what tasks to set each week it's completely up to me what order i do them in as long as they are all completed by my finish date.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Channel 4 has been great. I am a wheelchair user and when i first got the apprenticeship they asked if i needed any adjustments and were super helpful. I know if i ever need any help with anything that the early careers team will try their best to help. My manager has been great and whenever we have had to travel to different places he will always meet me at the train station to make sure i make it to the venue safely.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have a meeting with my apprenticeship coordinator every two weeks, she's always on hand if i ever need her. She explains the tasks if I'm not fully understanding them and will show me examples to help if i need them. She is really helpful and is always willing to change due dates of tasks if i think another task is more relevant that week.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I definitely think that my qualification helps me to perform better as a lot of the tasks are job related. A recent one i completed was about time management, i was given loads of different time management tools that i then implemented into my everyday so that i could see what worked best.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have loads of ERG's ( Employee Resource Groups) you can join and some of them will have after work events. The London office sometimes has after work films in the cinema and will send out a teams link to the other offices. 4purple, channel 4's disability ERG, put on a comedy night just before Christmas. The Leeds office went to a local quiz night recently. There is also Christmas party's. There is loads of things you can get involved in, you just have to try.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Channel 4 to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would 100% recommend channel 4 to a friend. It is the best place I've worked, everyone is so helpful. Although you could class channel 4 as an office job it definitely doesn't feel like it, everything is so relaxed. There is so many different opportunities available.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Channel 4?
  • Just do it. Applying for the apprenticeship scheme was the best thing i ever did. There are so many apprenticeships available that there will be something for everyone. Just try your best and you never know.
