  • I develop, design, and test electrical systems and products as part of my job. On a daily basis, I might work on a range of projects, like analysing client specifications, creating prototypes, producing technical reports, troubleshooting electrical systems, and testing items for functionality. I might also collaborate with other divisions, including research and development, to develop new goods or systems. To keep projects on schedule, I also need to be able to fix issues fast.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My most recent experience has absolutely helped me to develop existing skills while also providing me an extensive background in the development and design of electrical systems and products. I have honed my technical skills and, with the help of colleagues, my problem solving and critical thinking skills. This has allowed me to approach projects from different angles and helped me to be innovative in my work. I have also increased my knowledge in coding and soldering, which has been a great learning experience for me.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am thoroughly enjoying my electrical engineering programme! I find it extremely interesting and engaging. There is a good balance between theory and practical work. Having the opportunity to interact with my peers and lecturers on a daily basis helps to broaden my knowledge and encourages the development of analytical and problem-solving skills. Additionally, the projects that I get to work on allow me to get creative and produce meaningful solutions.

  • My electrical engineering programme is well organised and structured. It has a clear framework with modules that ensure I learn all the major topics necessary to my degree. The material is divided into topics that sufficiently cover what I need to know. Additionally, the coursework is well organised with deadlines clearly outlined to ensure that I stay on track and can stay focused on key topics. The lecturers are well informed and always happy to answer questions and provide guidance when needed.

  • My employer provides extensive support to ensure my success in my programme. This includes providing access to online libraries, research material, and resources. They also highly encourage me to attend workshops and seminars to further my knowledge and skill set. Additionally, I always have a team of colleagues and supervisors to help and guide me along the way. My employer also encourages feedback of all stages of my project and provides support in the form of resources and advice when needed.

  • My training provider is extremely supportive when it comes to working towards my qualifications. They ensure that I have all the resources I need, as well as providing a comprehensive syllabus which is regularly updated. They also provide monthly assessment tests to provide a good understanding of areas that need improvement. They also hold regular seminars and workshops to aid understanding and provide the chance to further develop my knowledge and skills.

  • I feel that my qualifications through my training provider are extremely helpful in helping me to perform better in my role as an electrical engineer. My training provider provides me with updated information and resources to ensure that I am up to date with the latest technology which is essential in this ever-evolving field. Additionally, the assessment tests help identify problem areas and put me in a better position to address them. Finally, the seminars and workshops have incredibly helped broaden my understanding and fine-tune my skills, making me more confident and successful in my role.

  • Yes, absolutely. My workplace provides a variety of extra-curricular activities for us to get involved in. Whether it be sport teams, social activities, or even professional networking events, there are certainly plenty of opportunities to contribute and network. My workplace also hosts frequent events such as BBQs, team building initiatives, and volunteer days to further promote team spirit and camaraderie. These extra-curricular activities are something I look forward to each week and definitely help to make the workplace more enjoyable and exciting.
