  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role includes dealing with mortgage application (Underwriting) new business that comes into the business. I also deal with external stakeholders such as Solicitors and Valuers

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Through my Apprenticeship I have gained key skills, such as mortgage underwriting I had a very basic understanding of what a mortgage was when I first started and through training I have successfully built my skill set to be able to have an official mandate and underwrite cases. along with make decisions.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The apprenticeship program at the society is excellent, the amount of support you receive is amazing. From the Early talent cohort that you meet on day 1, to the ET manager, Line manager, Buddy and mentor. All there to support my development throughout my society. The ET program is great and is a good ice breaker to get to know fellow new starters. There are amazing opportunities to get involved in with our partners.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship program Is very well structured. I I also had a lot of opportunities to complete my off the job hours and this has helped with my development. I also have been supported throughout by the Early talent team who really help with every aspect of my working day.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have an amazing support network around me, I have my ET manger and support team who is there for me with any issues or problems that I face regrading my program, as well as happy to help with any other issue I may face and will do her best to resolve this for me. I have my manager who I speak to on a daily basis and is great in supporting me in my everyday tasks and organizing training sessions for my development. I also have a Buddy and a mentor who I speak to about advise or any coaching around areas I feel like I need to develop on.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is great in supporting me with any issues I have, the sessions are informative and easy to follow and the work set is manageable with realistic deadlines. This has really helped through my time helping with issues that I have had and support me through to EPA.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have learnt a lot of new skills that I have implemented into my role, for example I have developed my knowledge around policies and why they are important. As well as stakeholder management and identifying techniques to allow for better relationships among stakeholders.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have a Staff association at the society, which organizes different events and discounts on things such as shows, we also are allowed to have volunteering days where we help communities causes close to our heart, because as a society investing into the community is important to us making this a great place to work

  • Yes

  • It is a great organization, with an amazing support network. There are great opportunities to be involved in. The society invest in yourself and give you the best things for personal development and will support any decision you have. The people are amazing and do everything to help. and are so supportive


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Newcastle Building Society?
  • My only tip would Just be Yourself! Being yourself is so important when applying for a role with the society. Make sure to research about our values and the partners we work with as well as make sure to shine we are so friendly and the assessment centers are welcoming
