  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am the Group Training and Development lead for Halfords Customer Services. I design and deliver training to 300+ colleagues for all levels. Team Leaders, Advisors, Operations and other areas of the business. I have two training co-ordinators who support my vision and goals in carrying out excellent training material.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes - I have learnt about the impact of TNA's and stakeholder management. Also the learning theory behind my role. People management and how the learning cycle is a key part of my role and ensures knowledge is retained. How to take feedback and act accordingly. The importance of inclusion and coaching.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • LOVE IT!! I have an amazing tutor who guides me inside and outside of the programme. I have had the opportunity to share some calls with amazing professionals. Sharing best practice from my tutors experience and others is priceless. I am proud to be on this programme and grateful my company support me.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is new to this company so there are areas that could be improved, planning and a better evidence/tracker systems as their (skills forward) is hard to navigate. The workshops are structured with clear "areas" and the relevance to my role is always considered. I am an organised person so this is key to me developing.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Loads of support. My manager supports my development journey and the SLT team are away of my course and regularly ask for updates on what I have learnt - demonstrating that they care about what I am doing. I am allowed time away from my day-to-day tasks to ensure I am learning.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I recieve lots of support from my training provider, including connections with other professionals over linkedIn and meet and greets with colleagues in the same area as myself who can share outsider knowledge, top tips and tools on how I can be the best within my training role. I feel greatly supported.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Once I have completed my apprenticeship and got my qualification this will help me understand the theory behind my role and also set me up for other roles in the future that I may want to go for. Once you become accredited you are worth lots more to your customers.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, we have lots of team days, awards ceremony's and conferences. I showcased at national customer service week and learning at work week conferences within our business. I have also attended the learning and technologies conference in London where I met some incredible professionals who gave me food for thought.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is an amazing company to work for with brilliant benefits. We treat each other like family and stick together through thick and thin. We are a big company with lots of development opportunities. Once you are in the door at Halfords you have the option to move, whether that be to another department, promotion or role change.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Halfords?
  • Be yourself. Bring your A game and be prepared to be supported throughout your time with this company. You will gain life long friends, family and feel joy like no other when you hit targets and succeed as a team. You will be celebrated for doing an amazing job and helped when you feel like you aren't. Be open, be honest and give it 100%.
