  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, upon doing this apprenticeship I’ve been able to dig deeper into company policies and procedures. I now manage the team differently and more appropriately. I’m more mindful of other people’s strengths and weaknesses as well as my own. I’ve learnt to manage my expectations better.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed this apprenticeship very much, it’s given me more insight into my company as a whole. It’s also given me the opportunity to grow and better myself . It has shown me the true extent of support that I get from my SM and ASM on a daily basis.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured and relatively easy to use especially for someone who is not very tech savvy. My tutor explains everything to me in a way that I can understand. I really like the full lay out of it. Overall I am very impressed with the whole programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am very lucky with the company I work for, even more so my senior management team are amazing. If I ask something they always get me the answer I need. They give every piece of information I ask for, wether it’s company policies, procedures, facts and figures. They are never too busy to help.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • If I have a question for my tutor she will always answer me. During store visits she is extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. She makes me feel at ease with it all. I know she’s only at the end of the phone should I need her, and always replies to messages.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It has helped me massively in how I look at my job role. And how to manage my expectations and not take on too much myself by deleting tasks and setting time limits using the SMART technique. I feel it has helped my manage my time at work in a more productive way.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have just completed a company course called Evolve. It is an insight into the assistant manager role within the company. We do a lot in store for the Poundland foundation charity, our last big event was a massive charity walk. Myself and others are taking part in a charity skydive next month.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Poundland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I personally find them an excellent company to work for. They genuinely care about their colleagues, they offer so much support in the way of mental health through grocery aid, and mental health champions across every area of the company. The company was amazingly supportive throughout COVID. They are a pleasure to work for.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Poundland?
  • Every store is different and providing you have an excellent senior management team in place you will get all the support you will ever need. But as with all companies you will only get out what you put in. Poundland is the best company I have worked for, I am 5 years strong and hoping for many more.
