  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I carry out reviews of contracts, conduct intellectual property checks for Poundland’s Trading team and assist with intellectual property claims. I work on regulatory matters and assist the wider Legal team with legal disputes, along with providing administrative support.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Through my apprenticeship with Poundland, I have developed many practical skills which will assist me in my desired career as a solicitor. These include legal writing and drafting, case matter and analysis, and improved verbal communication skills by undertaking modules in client interviewing and advocacy.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the apprenticeship programme as it combines developing practical skills through the workplace role, alongside studying Law, which I have not had the opportunity to do previously. It is an extremely intense course, and it is challenging, but it has been immensely helpful to my personal development.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The specific course that I am enrolled upon is the first of its kind and so, there has been some initial teething issues regarding organisation and structure. However, any issues have been resolved once identified (and communicated to the provider).

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is extremely supportive of my studies and allows me time to dedicate to my own personal development and learning.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have a dedicated skills coach who is my go-to person when I require support with my studies. She is very helpful.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My development during the time that I have been on the course has been evident and I have received such feedback from my managers. It has not only expanded my knowledge of the law and helped to developed important practical skills but also increased my confidence.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are opportunities for me to network through events that are offered to Poundland via our external solicitor firms. Poundland also has many social events such as race days, colleague award events and sporting activities such as Poundland football team.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Poundland to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • There are many opportunities to develop (personally and professionally). I began working as an administrator for the Legal and Health and Safety team and progressed to Paralegal and am now working towards becoming a solicitor for the business.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Poundland?
  • Take yourself out of your comfort zone, there are lots of opportunities to grow within the business.
